Hey you guys.
I have decided that my next build is going to be something a little less, well just less than the Prowler.
I was going to build a Tamiya or Later Airfix kit as I needed something where the parts actually fit together like how a model should. ;)

While eyeing the stash this wonderful yellow bi plane jumped up and begged me to build it. I bought it on E-Bay a few weeks back along with a Tri plane for £5

I read a little info about it and I was hooked.
http://www.boeing.com/history/products/stearman-kaydet-trainer.page

Affectionately called "The Yellow Peril" I was powerless to resist.

I checked and there seems to be not that many work in progress builds of this lovely bird so I decided there and then.

Originally I wanted to build this OOB but as you an I both know that's never going to happen. :guitar:

So any way here we go with my WIP of The Stearman KAYDET by Revell in the gentleman's scale.:yahoo:

First up we have the obligatory box shot. Look how Ace it looks. :analintruder:

D762340B-8DE4-4A30-B892-A329AC219906_zpschnmndat

The sprews and decals.

8D6F3765-DAC0-4FF9-9FA4-24994B26F8BF_zpskekkxapb

Everything looks great, we have some raised panel lines a bit of flash but nothing that cant be, ahem, fixed. :ninja:

As this was going to be OOB I thought I'd start with the office.

43B53EF5-991C-4471-B2FF-B7E7C643073A_zpsx9uiah4z

Yup that's it.:yikes:feast your eyes on the details. :fight: So much for the OOB.:police:

So scratch build office it is. I'm not going to go cRaZy as you can't see in that much. First off a Plasticard floor.

68E2746F-3AF1-46A5-8524-6FA8028A7171_zpsiwqzrobb

then a bit of detail added and a test fit of the seats.

90B117CC-E7F8-49EC-BA51-F85DBF6DD907_zpsp0nosp6d

The Non existent IP needed to be improved so due to the success of the "remove before flight" tags on the prowler I got a photo from the web scaled it in Photoshop and shaped it roughly right, then scaled it to 1/72.

6941F00E-CA77-4AA7-992A-F18202F25B14_zpstr90vf3l

next upwas to glue them to some primed plasticard and paint em up.

0413403C-EB00-46FB-91AD-4B705CBE66FF_zpsbf9vxzip

No too bad, I think at "the gentleman's scale" they will work rather well.:hobbyhorse:

Now I know those seats are a thing of beauty and their delicate molding is in itself exquisite I felt I needed to add a little more. :fight:

First off sides.

BCB83007-EC1E-4A35-948E-FFB5B6AB18D7_zpsa8nnkkwg

Next will be detailed padding made from milliput nut It'll have to wait until next time I'm affraid.

I hope you will enjoy watching this lovely bird come together, I'm having great fun already building her.

Take care Y'all and as always.

Happy modelling.

Johhny. :pilot:

You're addicted to custard-coloured things. You need help:tease:

This looks like it will be a lovely little build.

The P-shopped additions are a great idea - which has  been duly nicked....

Thanks to Mike and Dave I now only have one new post. Phew. I'll try and keep the drinking to a minimum, might even change that avatar Mr Uncool. Just for you. :coolio:

The two big problems with this model are that the fuselage is too fat and the struts too short. This results in a very stumpy looking Stearman. Revell's 1/48 offering is the most accurate Stearman kit available at the present time.

Well I did not know that. Even though I think I'm still going to have fun building it.

John,

I made one earlier this year and it's okay, but as usual with these things suffers from being an old (early1980s?) model. I'll try and post a photo at some point.

Those IPs look really god from here. Nice subject to tackle.

Oh, I was just pullin' yer leg, John. That avatar is certainly one of the coolest I've seen on this forum. ;)

Looking forward to this.. I built one of these as a kid and it was one of the better biplane kits at the time.

1960s eh? That explains a lot. Here are some quick picks I took with the phone this afternoon.

I think they show what I mean. It has also been smashed by my seven year old and his three year old sister!

Thanks for going to the trouble of taking pics! :coolio: looks pretty good to me. I'm looking forward to putting this together even more now, I don't mind the slight inaccuracies, :D 60s too. And I wanted a trouble free kit.

In between chores I got a little bench time today.

first off I made some struts for the pit. I didn't bother with the vertical and horizontals as you just won't see them.

E460EDDF-39A8-4D92-A427-CB20738D2051_zps6ilprpbo

Next was the milliput seats. Tooth pick rolling pin and some indents. Should look good painted.

9D80BE77-2759-44DB-AFF9-CA22DA74293C_zpsdmwmdk61

I couldn't quite get the backs right so I made loads, hopefully two will catch my fancy. :tumble:

AC194C7F-69D1-4A0F-8ED0-5E2F63F67739_zpsodf61fc8

The insides got a primer blast, I forgot how fast 1/72 models go.:D

6955EE0D-6E36-49B6-A7E6-FDA690ED7AED_zpsmttq9v9y

I also primed the control sticks. BIG huh?

FDD59B35-1224-4252-9568-86C9A8AAFA4A_zpskange1sh

The engines look like they could do with some work.

E326E0BF-0BAB-4119-9AB9-428965AAF4C0_zpsbhat1rnc

As could the prop, I heard that it wasn't quite the right shape.

29DE834D-E482-4B77-85C5-03070BDBB800_zpsdjqgfbig

I spied the milliput from the seats and a round bit left over from the prowler.

A3B4A50B-BA1E-4D01-BDDA-0B3482F4E59D_zpsncdoqxjz

I'll let that cure before sanding and sticking on the "round bit".

thats about it. I'm at the Theatre tonight. "Get me" :stupid: hopefully more tomorrow in between taking some shots of the Prowler.

take care. And thanks as always for all the lovely comments and helpful information. Keep it coming.

Happy modelling.

John.

I think once you have the cockpits together the rest will be reasonably straightforward, I remember this as a rather well fitting kit.

This is coming together very quickly John. A nice relaxing build after the Prowler.

I like yellow planes too, the inter war 'yellow wings' US paint schemes are really quite stunning.

Hope you had a good night at the theatre.

Best regards

Tony

Good start, and like the IPs and those seats look quite comfortable. Suspect milliput would be a bit hard though if you scaled it up. It is a bright banana yellow though. Presumably you will be rigging it. Same technique as used for your stringbag?

I seem to have gone from jet to jet all of a sudden. Spinners are much more fun.:D And the yellow scheme. ( oh my) .  We had a great time thanks, my best man was playing Bertie Wooster. Rather splendid job too.

Thanks. We will see what happens seat wise today. I'll be rigging for sure, ez line. But I'm not quite sure how yet. :o

The little milliput pads got added and painted.

The IPs got added and the floor glued.

everything else just fell in. Looks more full now.

time to close up but there was a slight problem. A small step in the section between the pits. You can just see it higher on the far side.

sanded and sorted. It's now glued and drying.

I'm now full of Cottage pie so no more plastic today. :sleep_1: The prowler got its RFI too.

Thanks for looking and happy modelling.
