Mean while, as they would say on Blue Peter, here's one I made earlier. 6

jrlx Posted September 17, 2016 Posted September 17, 2016 Hi Joe, Very well done The picture with the skyraider looks superb and very realistic! Cheers Jaime 1
bzn20 Posted September 17, 2016 Posted September 17, 2016 That's great. Love the dio too. Who made the tractor? The real one I mean, not model! Douglas ? 1

Thank you bnz20, I think the manufacturer was Vickers. Below is some information I was told by an ex Royal Navy Naval Airman called Chris (Roof Rat) who is on this site. Introduced early to mid 1960's. The Tow Tractors were all wheel drive and all wheel steer. Fully automatic, stick forward to go forward, stick back for backwards. It had the same engine as a London bus. This kit represents a later model, which was lighter than the earlier models. The earlier models were heaver due to the aircraft that were towed around the flight deck of the Royal Navy carriers. The early models towed Phantoms and Buccaneers, the later models towed the much lighter Harrier and rotary wing aircraft. Post Falklands, the tractors were painted green. 2
71chally Posted September 17, 2016 Posted September 17, 2016 Lovely build there, first one I've seen of the Skunkworks one, they are really great value for money as well. Yours represents one of the later ones with the demineralised water tank and hose for supporting Sea Harriers 1

Yours represents one of the later ones with the demineralised water tank and hose for supporting Sea Harriers Thank you 71chally. Your right, it is one of the late ones. I think they might have been lighter in weight as well. As for value for money, there was two in the box for £13.99 which can't be bad. 1
71chally Posted September 18, 2016 Posted September 18, 2016 I think the weight could be added and removed as needed. Has other clever features like being able to move the tow hitch along its width, I know that they can tow a Boeing 767, they are powerful little brutes. Vickers Royal Navy deck tractor by James Thomas, on Flickr I have reasonable access to two of these if you ever need pics, judging by your build you don't! The kit has been on sale for £10, at £5 a tractor that's very good value! 1
phildagreek Posted September 18, 2016 Posted September 18, 2016 It looks even better parked up next to an aircraft, it's screaming out for a handler to be asleep / sulking on it. Good job. 1
Mountain goat Posted September 19, 2016 Posted September 19, 2016 Nice looking tractor - great weathering! Jay 1
Mancunian airman Posted September 19, 2016 Posted September 19, 2016 In the right setting, that could easily be mistaken for the real thing as I think the paint job, weathering is absolutely spot-on. Those diorama pics are also in a well composition with those aircraft . . . 1

A Skyraider the Navy never had, a tow tractor that was used for Harriers, on a deck of a light fleet carrier.
