I went to Jabbeke yesterday, the civilian vehicle modelling show. The trip was combined with a very pleasant weekend in Brugge with the missus. Win-win I say.

The nice thing about this show is that all the kits for sale are vehicle kits, including a lot of truck kits. I didn't want to spend a whole bunch and I got some good deals on some older kits which made the total setback not too bad at all.

From 1987, this Freightliner, it's partly started and may not be entirely complete but it does look like it is.

The 2011 reboxing of the 1972 Road Boss kit.

And I needed some cabovers in the stash. This 1980's release from the 1971 kit came at a nice price.

And lastly, another cabover kit, this is a 2017 release of a '70's kit, with 2 cabs in it. I like that day cab.

A nice score.

Hi Jereon  , Congratulations to these purchases. I think it was a mistake not to come to Jabekke.  Do you have some more photos from this Event?

There were a lot of super nice models on display, I made some snapshots of the ones that really caught my eye.

Most of the missing pieces I should be able to scratch build but the front body piece and the seats could be tricky. I might try to make molds and make copies out of epoxy putty, I have done that in the past.

I've a spare set of seats, dash & front suspension parts for one of these Airfix Frogeyes, if that's any good to you?  I've no idea why I have them, or what happened to the rest of it (if I even had it...)

Never heard of this bike but the moment I saw the kit I knew I had to have it. I plan to build a civilian version with chrome. The tires and chain is molded in rubber-like material but for some reason they are skin colored. Any idea if I need special paint for this? Never painted on soft plastic.

'70 Chevelle is my favorite. Wish there was a modern tool. Too bad Revell stopped after making the '68 and '69.

Can't say for definite with this kit, but the soft rubbery plastic Belkits had you paint on their Fiesta was a bit of a nightmare with acrylic paint as it wouldn't adhere properly and tended to flake off if you went anywhere near it. I did get it done eventually, but would suggest trying other paint types on the sprue before committing to the kit.

Today for my 75th, our youngest son (52) bought me this.. As I already have one and built it in Rothmans style decals, I've ordered some Bastos decals, used in the Belgian Rally Champs at the same period.

I need an Airfix Bond Bug too. There's one which I see every few weeks driving in my local area.

Nice find on the NASCAR kit. The other day I was at my folks and found this.

It's the same kit but a different season. I've only got the body shell. Need to find the rest.

Thanks for the offer. Unfortunately after Brexit it is expensive to import stuff. I will try to make copies I already have everything I need but if it fails I will contact you and see if you still have the parts. :)

As no Australian Britmodeller seems to have posted one yet, I have most recently purchased two DDA brand 1/25 Holden Monaro GTS kits. Long awaited these are based on DDAs own die-cast models which are widely distributed in specialist shops and motor parts outlets.

Of the pair purchased, one is stock 308"V8 4 speed 4 door GTS sport sedan, the other is the same basic kit but 'slammed' and fitted with a twin-turbocharged LS1 V8.

There are two other kits, a 6 cylinder three-speed family sedan and an overexcitable supercharged 'door-slammer' for burn-out duty.

Here is a link to the front page of a shop which sell them.

Bought this on a complete whim while getting some supplies from one of the few actual model shops round my way:

They do a good line in 1/25 US kits, see here. It's not really what I normally go for, but it's a curious thing.

No problem - they're safe in my spares draw.  I don't want anything for them, if that makes any difference with import duties?

I don't know if it works all the time,  but you should declare something on the outside.

1. "no commercial value"

2. "personal gift shipment "

that's the normal term to show that the shipment is not business related  and soften the rules for duty and tax.

I'm posting this in both my own "tokyo" thread and the "what car/bike" thread so whichever you're reading it in, it's the same in the other. Below is a photo of all 19 kits I managed to get in with creative packing and detaching a lot of parts from sprues for about 8 of the kits. Rounded prices paid are shown in red. This luggage is alongside other items such as all Mrs GalaxyG's Japanese cosmetics, and a ton of Japanese snacks and a few car-related t-shirts.  Good job that route (London-Tokyo) allows each traveller 2 X 23KG in luggage. Not that kits weigh much. But cosmetics certainly do. Lotions, elixers, creams, balms, mists, masks - it's an expensive hobby.:)

A number of out-of-production kits shown below were things I had hoped to find but with no certainty: The Focus, Escort, Volvo, Mercedes and all 3 smaller Hondas. All of the in-production kits were planned purchases except the Cima - where I got inspired by one VIP version I saw, and the Murcielago, where I got inspired by it's price of £7.50. The Murcielago is not a car or kit I'd considered before but there it was, partially started (mercifully unpainted) waiting for someone to pick it up and continue/finish it. It's not the first time I've let a low-cost kit guide me into making a car I'd otherwise overlooked or dismissed - sometimes it's nice to let a bit of random choice interrupt my plans.  In that vein I'd also not had the Repsol Delta on my list but for £11 I wasn't going to say no. The NSX was on my "maybe" list.  £15 put it into the shopping basket.  Sadly the #1 kit on my wishlist, the Fujimi Mitsubishi FTO nor the #2 Mitsubish Legnum, were not available.  I didn't get any endurance cars this time as I have so many already in the stash.

Below the photos is a list of all the non-kit but model related miscellaneous I bought.

Excellent bit of shopping there GG! Glad I've already got a Repsol Delta & Pilot Escort or I'd be pig sick seing those prices!

TBH it's the stuff you got from the Tamiya store that I wish we could easily get over here - that lot looks really useful! And of course the Hasegawa mirror finish! :)

That's a pretty impressive haul, particularly at those prices. I thought I'd done quite well to get the GTi-R for £30, then you've gone and got it for half that. On the bright side though, at least I didn't have to clutter up the public bins with used undies to get it home ;)

Revell did make a modern tool ‘70 Chevelle some years ago. Although it‘s only a snap-kit, it‘s by far the most accurate kit in terms of body proportions. It‘s spot-on in all aspects that matter. With some work it can be made into a nice curbside model. This is mine, built in 2019.
