What CAR/BIKE kits have you recently bought 2?

It's been a busy weekend with the NEC Classic Car Show and IPMS Telford.

I picked this up at the NEC.  I'd have preferred a standard SEL but these kits are so rare I'll take what I can get.  When I've seen them on eBay they're at least twice what the seller was asking.

My modest IPMS haul.

They're not kidding about it being moulded in colour.  I think Codger would have approved of this kit being a correct, narrow-body 289 with the correct suspension.

I've wanted the British Pick Up kit for a while and decided it was time to get it.  I'm looking forward to seeing what else people have picked up.

I bought a few things at Telford over the weekend. A member of IPMS Northern Ireland posted a list of kits he wanted to sell on another forum that I'm a member of, so I bought these, which included a rare Aurora 1/32 Rover BRM.

Other purchases ranged in scale and subject matter, including a rather silly one.

Finally some aftermarket stuff in the shape of a couple of wheel sets and two Jaguar rear ends for hot rods.

Nice selection of kits @TimJ the Rover BRM is usually on display at the British Motor Museum in Gaydon (as I'm sure you know).

If you want any photos, let me know and I'll try and get some the next time I'm volunteering at the museum.  Exterior only, as I don't want to ask them to open it up just for me, but I can check my computer for photos I've taken when it has been opened up.  Although I guess you're not so far away that you can't pop over for a look if you want.

I made a mistake.

I still got unfinished Carrera GT and GT-R V-Spec (Tamiya and Aoshima, respectively), and I also have an unbuilt Tamiya R34 GT-R Nismo Z Tune. On top of unfinished F-22A and F-14D. And yet I ordered Aoshima's Zonda F kit through my friend from Yahoo Auction because the price is too good to miss and I can't get the Zonda kit in Indonesia. Yea I made a stupid mistake here.

Tamiya car kits of that era were stunning.  I did have one of these & the coupe, but they didn't survive a cull a while back (I did keep the '90s Alfa GTV though!) & suspect that I've missed the boat due to the rising costs.  However, I always thought that the AMG ones looked like the wheels were a bit too small, especially compared to the regular versions.  I have seen some aftermarket wheel sets (Aoshima?) which at this scale would pass for deep dish AMG monoblocks or similar wheels, should that be if interest?  This was the set I had at the time, and was planning to use https://www.hiroboy.com/124_Glassenheit_DISIX_Revo_20_Wheels_and_Tyres--product--12074.html not exact, but close enough.

I do wonder if we will ever see these& others of this era reissued (e.g. Volvo estate BTCC!!!).  Anyhow, looking forward to seeing your build thread!  It would make a great pairing with the 750iL 😎

And saloon! I've got a sorry looking estate built many years back with a brand new set of SK decals to restore when I get roundtoit - but never managed to get hold of the saloon.

A re-issue of the Sierra RS500 would be welcome too!

Indeed - the list of great kits from that series which need re-issuing is long!  There's the road version of the Volvo too, Jag Mk2, Morgan, the Minis (better accuracy & detail than the much newer Revell ones), '60s Alfa GTV, Audi ur-Quattro, Fiat 500 & Abarth 695.  However, in the case of the Peugeot 205 & 405 rally cars, is it wrong that I'd want to convert them to road cars?  For instance, there are umpteen Golf GTi kits, but not a single 205 GTi one, which is verging on criminal!

In general I think Tamiya reissue way too few kits. Year after year it is the same kits that are available and maybe 1 or 2 new kits each year. Time to reissue the entire historic car series. Also I want the Aston Martin DBS I waited too long last time and missed out.

Thanks Paul, I'm a big fan of Tamiya's car kits of that era.  The same seller with the AMG saloon had a CL600 AMG for the same price, but as I have a non-AMG CL600 I decided to leave that one.  I might leave off the body kit from the saloon and build it as an ordinary 600SEL, I'll definitely check out the options for aftermarket wheels and tyres.

Agreed, I'd love a DBS, there is such a rich back catalogue of models that it would be nice to have more rotations of different kits being brought back each year.

Not to me, your kit, build it your way! And I have to admit I'd like to see those conversions!

I did toy with the idea of cross kitting one of my two Sierra RS500 kits with my one XR4i kit to make a road car, but the combined values and the thought of never finishing it rather puts me off!

I agree with all your re-release wishes (although I think I have enough Minis left in the stash) and would add the Escort Cosworth and Porsche 956. If I could actually afford to buy them all though, well that's a different matter....!! 🤣

I'd love to see those which have been mentioned too, but can't help wondering if the issue is to do with the cost of licencing. If that has nothing to do with it, it seems very odd that Tamiya rereleased the Loti Seven and Europa at the same time a couple of years back. I know for computer games the Japanese manufacturers have been much more lenient and amenable to having their cars licenced for racing games than some of the German manufacturers for example, which may explain why Tamiya have so many Nissans, Toyotas and Mitsubishis in their available kits list (not that this would exactly be hindered by Japan being their home market and them having so many in their back-catalogue). So of those mentioned, given their recent release of the Ford GT I can't help thinking the Sierra and Escort may be the most likely and the GT suggests those communication channels are already open. But I'm not holding my breath....

Aside from the wheels & badging, does it still have all the non-AMG parts such as the bumpers then?  It's such a long time since I sold my ones that I can't remember, & there are no instructions for either on scalemates.

Definatly a golden era for Tamiya car kits.  The only kit of theirs since then which I feel has lived up to that series is the recent full detail 240ZG.  I'm hoping for a regular 240Z version soon.

I don't have either kit, nor the time to do such a conversion, as I have far too many unbuilt kits already...  Just a reflection on my somewhat random taste in vehicles I guess, but then my favourite Ferrari would be a 400i...  Given some of the other iconic French subject matter that Heller has recently created kits of, perhaps a 205 GTi kit may be a future possibility?

My wife keeps telling me that I have too many models, then buys me this beast for my birthday the other week. Then she says, where are you going to put it when it's built 🤣🤣

Women's logic at its best 🤣 but I'm looking forward to having a crack at this, probably over Christmas 😀

"In the living room" would probably have been the best answer.

There's a fine line between bravery and stupidity. I didn't cross it, so I live to fight another day. However I have found a 3d printed bracket you can get to mount it vertically on the wall 😀

1:72 is far too small for me to cope with, but I love the look of those Opel buses too.

With the bottom right one, I also find it particularly amusing that Nazi Germany of all places would produce a bus with eyelashes 😄

Lancia LC2 from Italeri 1/24

spacer.png4

After I bought this model, I would like to give a short review: This is a decal set with a few plastic parts! The best part are the Cartograph decals - forget the rest! Unless you are a total Lancia fan (Lancisti).

The few parts fit very badly and have many sink marks. The transparent parts are all, except for the rear lights maybe, so horrible that I threw them in the bin in disgust.

You practically have to rebuild the model 90% of the time, and as I said only 20% of the parts are usable at all. It is the worst model I have ever bought or seen.

The box says kit for ages 14 and up - the truth is: For kids up to 14 years!

Cheers

Andreas
