Perfectly reasonable.

I'd love to get the Zakspeed Capri again.

Cheers,

Alan.

Thanks Alan it's a simple kit to build but I think it looks great when finished 👍

I totally agree with this.   I built the black version back in the early 1980s in the days when it still came with a little electric motor , having been inspired by a review in Scale Models , and I still think it looks great .  I have the white one in the stash and hope that when I build it I get as much pleasure from it as I have from the black one .

I think I may have a copy of that mag in my stash. There was an article about correcting the ESCI Zakspeed Escort as well, I think.

Cheers,

Alan.

I think the only possible downside to buying these older kits is that you can never be sure how the original decals will perform. I got lucky with the white one above and fingers crossed the latest one I've brought will turn out the same 🙂

Sadly , this is so . Over the first lockdown last year I built four Tamiya 1/12 motorbikes , two I bought recently and two which had been relaxing in my stash for many years . The decals in the two older kits looked fine , but were depressingly prone to shattering in the water or splitting into pieces coming off the backing paper . I would strongly recommend the use of Microscale Liquid Decal Film on any older Tamiya decals . A couple of coats of that should hold the most fragile of decals together . Since it produces a single film over the entire sheet , you need to cut out the decals individually close to the image , which is a bit of a pain but much better than trying to piece together a multi-coloured decal which has split into several pieces .

I recall both articles, though I'm not 100% sure they were both in the same issue .

I finally caved and ordered this during the weekend. Found it at a discount but still the most expensive 1/24 kit I have ever bought. I will keep looking for the Fujimi 1/16 version though.

There is never too many Zakspeed Capris. I also built Würth version when it was last time available. This kit is quite basic as others have mentioned. Long tome ago I was thinking if it's possible use Monogram IMSA Mustang parts to improve this kit. Basically IMSA Mustang was development from Capri.

Its not a car but it's very useful for putting things in! Found this in my my local model shop, and it cost £17. It's ideal as I intend to stack a few as long as I can get the same case or cases again. I have some odd expensive display cases but they vary vastly in size. I was unaware that Belkits made these too. Chris.

Some years ago I built myself a line bending machine (think that is what it is called in english) with the purpose of creating my own display cases from acrylic sheets. I did some test bends and it was working well but then something else came up and I forgot about it. Seeing your photos makes me want to locate the machine and have another go at it.

Hopefully last purchase this year. Already have the BMW and Judge (older reissue which is not 2 in 1 I believe) but they were 25% off of an already good price so I could not help myself.

You know me to well Jeroen 😆👍. But in fairness I have ordered Mrs J a new wok which should arrive about the same time as the kit.....a bit of a smoke screen if you like....it makes her feel a bit guilty when she gives me a good cussing for listening to @keefr22again. I just hope the wok doesn't end up with a dome shape where there shouldn't be one 😬

To be built or stashed ?

Stashed.....no chance Gary. When I'm up to speed I should be hitting 1 completed build per fortnight so although I'm in the middle of a classic Ford frenzy atm this kit will be built mate and I'll be using your great build thread for reference 👍

Thanks for your kind comments  ! It's a bit fiddly around the engine area , but apart from that it was my most enjoyable and fulfilling build I've done and gets great comments now it has top billingin the display cabinet  .

 Gary .

I’ve been looking for one of those Judge kits for several years! Where did you find it?

best,

I'm quite pleased with these purchases.  The Z1 was £17 from the usual auction site. The price of this kit seems to vary wildly, but at seventeen quid plus postage I think I did alright. Next came the 4Wheel Drive 109" LWB - a Land Rover to you and I. A tenner! I saw it at the Yeovil show and didn't think twice, I picked it up and bought it. This kit is a better option than the Revell kit for conversion to an 88". Finally, the Opel GT. This was originally a 1970 snap-together kit, and its age and origin shows. 29 parts and several mould flaws, but it was just under a tenner at £9:99; and I got it as a mate of mine has a full size one (lucky swine).
