The vision for this (at the moment) is to go for the 1973-style grille and Rostyle wheels.

Nice!!

Do you get both options (of wheels and grill /trim) in the one box??

My Dad had one for a few years in wire wheels and chrome bumpers done in a kind of metallic beige colour which sounds a bit iffy but looked great. He was of the opinion that not many were produced in this paint finish. Not sure if I've seen another I must admit.

The Aoshima rubber bumper MGB kit comes with the choice of wire or Rostyle wheels and the chrome grille and bumpers as well as the "rubber" bumpers.  I'll have to modify the grille to represent the 1973 design but that should be easy enough to do.

From what I've heard the chrome bumper MGB kit only comes with wire wheels and the chrome grille.

That's right  John

The chrome bumper kit comes without choice of wheels and bumper.

Didn't buy any kits in September but I bought a 1/1 house instead. It is a quite big house and I don't have enough furniture for all rooms so in order to avoid the echo of an empty room I need to buy more kits. Got two today and more is on the way.

I reckon I built the Rothmans version of this back in 1991 / 2 . After all this time this new “ limited edition “has cropped up and a bid on e bay won me it !
The Rothmans car is looking a bit dog eared now , kind of like a barn find !

These arrived today for a couple of upcoming builds spacer.pngspacer.png

Also this "barn find" at mum's house which I had started (badly) many years ago but seeing as how much the Tamiya 787B goes for on eBay it'd be a shame not to right it. And also it's my favourite car 😂 (I actually found two of these, but one is completely untouched!) Might need to get some new decals for it though as they've yellowed quite a bit.

Saving up for a largeish order for all sorts of misc detailing parts to try and do this and the 911 gt1 as best as I possibly can.

the engine runner appears to be from the old Tamiya 25 kit:

Thanks for the info on the Gunze kit, it looks pretty good for what it is.  I must admit I can see where you're coming from with your comments on the Revell E-type FHC, an odd approach if that's what happened as E-types aren't exactly difficult to find.

The 240Z on Wolfrace wheels, yes indeed!

The wires were for my Revell E-types and an Airfix (or something) Aston Martin DB5, Since I have now bought more kits that might use those wheels I may end up buying more sets.  If I get the chance I'll see about some comparison photos, unless someone else has already done that?

Haven't seen one elsewhere, so any pics would be very appreciated!

I gave in to temptation & bought both versions of Revell's new E type as I was able to get them for good prices.  As you may have guessed, I'm really not keen on the FHC due to the screen so not sure yet what I will do with it, but the OTS is definately much better & more accurate, so will be built box stock - well mostly, as there are a few things with the way that Revell has moulded some of the front suspension that really annoys me!  I think that the lack of perspective on a lot of Revell's own photos doesn't help the proportions at all, as I was unconvinced by the screen on the OTS too until I saw other people's built photos of it, where it does look fine.  I cannot unsee the issues with the FHC though.

I guess that one way to solve the windscreen issue on the FHC is to build it as the blue one in the Italian Job...  In reality, I suspect that I will have a go at correcting it (I can use the vacuum forming machine at work to make the new screen), on the principle that if it goes wrong, I won't have wasted a kit as I can combine the rest with the Gunze curbside (same as your's) that I have, or use the running gear, suspension & lots of the decals for my AirTrax resin Mk10 & save the (slightly) better bonnet for one of my Hellers.  Of course, there is also the option of turning one of my several E Type kits (or remnants of) into a Guyson E12

It just goes to prove that occasionally bargains are still to be had on Ebay

Stumbled across this kit to add to the F1 collection at a good price anyway, and with a fiver off for Nectar points it was delivered to my door for under £30 :)

All sealed in the bags and in as new condition :)

So Mrs J thinks £16 is a lot to pay for this kit but like I explained....you only live once 😉👍

If she ever finds out the true price my one life will be spent 😬

My first thought was, "Sixteen quid, you jammy so-and-so," I'm glad it wasn't quite that much of a bargain 😁

I've got one in my stash that I bought a few months ago as this was the first Tamiya kit I ever built.  I didn't pay £16 for mine (it was a bit more, but still more reasonable than some of the "buy it now" prices people try and get).

Hi John this is a car from my era and one which I remember vividly so I don't mind if it cost me a bit more than I planned you can't take it with you as they say 😉 👍

Similar here, Andy, I can remember the controversy caused by Ford's "jelly mould".  I guess it says something about the impact of the car, that it was deemed worthy to have a kit produced.

Money in the bank is all very well but it doesn't hurt to spend some of it on stuff that brings you joy.

My era was the hot hatch era John with cars such as Golf GTI , Astra GTE,  Nova GTE, XR3i,XR2,Renault 5 Turbo,Escort RS Turbo etc very exciting times mate and I think this is why I still prefer the old square lines of  these cars to today's bubble cars that basically all lack character imo

In other news John i think Mrs J has developed Tourettes syndrome as ever since I joined the forum whenever I mention my modelling purchases she seems to display the same tick. She stares at me, closes both eyes, tuts loudly, stares at the ceiling, shakes her head, shrugs her shoulders, turns around, sighs and walks out of the room 🙄. Fortunately random swear words aimed in my direction are not present......yet .....though certain quiet mumblings can be heard from time to time 🤔

Putting these two together, I've come to the conclusion that the best way to get some bargain priced kits is to work Mrs. J into a murderous rage...

I must admit I was never a fan of the Ford Sierra 😒

My dad had a new 1.6 GL in the mid 80's with the 5 speed gearbox and aerodynamic claims of high fuel efficiency etc and I had a MK5  '82 Cortina crusader 2.0 with a 4 speed box driven by a snotty teenager with a heavy right foot that always did more to the gallon than my dads Sierra which was driven by him in his slow and steady manner 🤣🤣

The cortina with a 5 speed box and a bit of a facelift would have been a lot better car :)

You're not alone - my father in law worked for Ford and always got a new car every three years with his employees discount, and one of those was a 1600 Sierra, some special edition or other that the missus thought would be a good replacement for our perfectly serviceable Escort Ghia. It was in the top 3 of the most hateful cars I've ever driven. Gutless, horrendous in any sort of crosswind, and I hope Ford sacked the noise, vibration and harshness engineers soon after it was launched as they were absolutely useless at their job! And yes it also was less economical than the deposed Escort!!

I did however manage to talk the local dealer into letting me test drive a black RS500 3 door Cossie - now that was a completely different animal (animal being the right word for the thing!) Shame the insurance quotes were about a quarter of the purchase price - and I was in my 30's with a clean record!!

I know what you mean about insurance quotes. In 1986 when I was 21 I was going to buy a Capri 3.0S from a mate at work, can't remember the price he wanted but the insurance quote for me then was £1200 which was nearly as much as I could have had the car for 😣

Speaking as man of a similar age here. (Pensionable)

I have driven Mk3/Mk4/5 Cortinas and two or three Sierras over the years, and as far as I can tell (Early 80's), the sierra knocked spots off the Cortinas.

I have driven a 1.8L, 2.3 Ghia and the mighty XR4-i. They were all great drives.

I did like the way that you could kick out the rear-end with a bit of throttle, especially the V6 ones, and then control it with a bit of opposite lock.

I never got the chance to try a Cossie of any type, unfortunately. They did seem a bit of a handful.

My favourite "fast" Ford was my Fiesta XR2 MkII. That was a blast!

Sorry for going off-topic a bit (?) here...

Cheers,

Alan.
