Hello model builders,

These two didn't exactly arrive today - they've been gradually arriving over the course of the last few months, buying parts here and there, so I can pretend the cost is a bit less! 😁  When I eventually get to a point that I can say my F1 projects are at a reasonable break point (and if I still like building models!), I'll start one of them.

The first is a 1/25 scale resin kit (AITM American Industrial Truck Models) of a Mack B75 tractor.  These trucks were built from the mid to late 50's into the mid 60's.  The shop set me up with the correct cab, and the appropriate chassis and so on, and service was prompt:

Nice haul. I gather some of the AITM cabs - especially the Macks - have their roots in masters created by the late James Etter in the '70s, so they might be thicker and dare I say cruder than more recent stuff.   I've seen those wheels & tyres used on other forums... enough said.    I really wanted some 24" Mack spokes when I built my DM600, but ended up using 22" ones from Moluminum, which are excellent.  I can vouch for KFS too, top notch.

Latest aftermarket indulgence for me: a “Mad Mike” 1/24 cast resin Ford 289 with four Webber carbs. I ordered this from Model Builders Warehouse (modelbuilderswh.com) for use in either a ‘65 Mustang (Revell 1/24) or ‘65 Comet (Moebius 1/25) for a B/FX drag car. May need to make a few mods for a drag racer (oil pan?). Model Builders was kind enough to send me a replacement carb for the one with the imperfect air funnel. Separating these parts, cleaning up the gates and painting and assembling these castings should be a “learning experience” for me.

I recently won on EBay a Gunze Sangyo Lotus Elan , which arrived in the post yesterday . Seems a nice little kit , though it suffers from the usual Gunze obsession with moulding far too much of the kit in flexible vinyl rather than hard plastic . In this case it involves most of the interior and , most oddly , the sealing rubbers for the front and rear screens which are intended to be glued over the clear screen mouldings - bizarre !!!

Oh yes...these flexible rubber or something  vinyllike...who knows,

for the interior parts it's a big problem

bcs up to now I didn't find a good solution to repaint these parts properly. But...all these Gunze kits represented cars I loved to build

I bought two kits here in Sweden today. The shop is "Ullared", which is a gigantic store knows for having exactly everything at low prices. A nice shop, really! Sometimes they get their hands on model kits, mostly Revell. Today I was in the vicinity, so I stopped by and picked these two up:

The Shelby set me back around £6, and the Viper around £8. Can't complain!

The credit card has received a bit of a battering.

You complete one Airfix Triumph Herald and two more arrive to take its place.  I'm thinking of maybe a two tone green and white for one and police panda car blue and white for the other.

What I really want is a Lincoln Continental saloon and I think it needs to be a 1964 model to replicate the Goldfinger car (or a '63 for the one that got crushed).  Maybe it's possible to build a saloon using the estate parts?  Otherwise, there was a Continental Convertible in Goldfinger, so this one could well be a stock, dark blue model.

"Parker, fetch the Rolls-Royce," I couldn't resist ordering the FAB1 kit when it came into stock.

It's quite a basic kit, almost more of an un-assembled toy but should have presence when it's on the shelf.

For 1/32 scale it is pretty big, it will dwarf the other models I have in that scale.

Another kit has arrived but I haven't had a chance to take photos yet.  Watch this space.

Been trying to find one of these for a while now . A good price offer on e bay did the trick . I love Safari Rally spec rally cars , this one has all the little details cars from that era needed to compete on the African event .

Here's the other new arrival.

y4mjJnuDCcwyIUiN6Dfh_GFv-8ApMMniW59oeUSc

This was given to me, which I really appreciate (especially so after the week I've had).  As you can see, I have some inspiration/reference material from the January 2021 issue of Classic and Sportscar magazine.  The 612 Sgaglietti might not be the prettiest car to wear the Ferrari badge but I think it's improved with age and as a model (a bit like FAB1) looks like it'll have great presence on the shelf.  I also like it because it's a four-seat Ferrari GT, which you don't see kitted very often.

Got any plans for the colour?  When I build mine I'm likely to go with Tamiya Metallic Black. It seems to suit darker colours better and it's certainly one of the few Ferraris that does not look good in red.

There are some really lovely ones in two tone schemes... very classy 1930s look. The dished panel in the sides provides an obvious demarcation.

Thanks. Yes, I saw a photo of one in metallic black with the bonnet and roof in dark gunmetal. I may copy that if it's not too hard to mask, possibly with the side dishes as well. It was that style (and with bigger rims on it) that got me thinking "actually this car can look pretty good".  It's a version known as Novitec Rosso.

It's amazing how much the choice of wheels can make or break the appearance of some cars. The standard 612 wheels, as used by Revell, are just the most awful thing.

My first thought was Tamiya TS-58 Pearl Light Blue, which is a lovely colour that I used on my Monogram Maserati 3500GTI.  I also have a can of Halfords Audi pearlescent dark grey that I think might be quite nice.

The two-tones are interesting, the second one (and the scalloped sides in general), reminds me of the 1956 to '62 Chevrolet Corvettes.  I appreciate that's the sort of talk that's likely to get a chap lynched by the Ferrari faithful.  I quite like the burgundy colour on the roof of the first car, although it might be a bit much to paint the whole car that shade.

You are winning me over to a metallic black or dark grey.  I also agree about the wheels, I think the car in the magazine article is on Ferrari 599 alloys?  At least the kit has the simpler five-spoke wheel design rather than the split rim, divided spoke design, which I think is far too fussy.

I think I've only ever seen a 612 once in real life; it looks much better on the road than it does in photographs.  I can't remember for certain but I'm pretty sure that the one I saw was in a light blue.

I took the plunge and ordered a few kits direct from Japan. So far I have saved a nice bit of money on what I could have paid for over here but I will have to see if I get hit by any extra costs and then figure out if it was worth it.

It's a great kit, but I'm sure it will come as no surprise that the rear sealing rubbers you menton are too large (at least on my kit) and require a small amount of 'cut and shut to fit.

Any suitable engine from another kit that one can fit to the Elan? I have this kit too and I think it looks strange when it is just empty where the engine should be.

Twin cam from the Tamiya Europa....

Converted BDA from Italeri/esci/revell Escort into a Twin Cam

And Scale Production do/did a resin Twin Cam bit it's out of stock with them & Spotmodel

85€ it was because "the box is damaged". Well it was. But the only damage I could find was the shipping labels and stuff taped onto it when sent to the first customer. They should know better by now. But in the end I don't care about boxes and am very happy with the price I paid. The parts are large, casting quality is not what I'd expect on first glance with such an expensive plastic kit, but I know Franzis quality never was worth its money, so I was prepared for that. It will get stowed away and probably will be built when my son is old enough and interested. Being a working model this should be quite educative.

Ah right,

haven't postet much here since I'm a dad. I only upgraded my family status in January 😄
