What CAR/BIKE kits have you recently bought 2?

Another kit I've been after since I first knew it existed.  I seem to have a thing for small/cheap/popular cars as well as big, fancy expensive ones.

The thing is, it's tiny, you don't get a sense of scale from the box so...

It's so tiny for a 1/24 model, it's really lovely.

That's right John, this BMW is really tiny, I remember when I opened the box of the kit. I thought minimum half of the kit including the body is missing 😇

BTW...today I received the Gunze Triumph TR3A

Let me guess, your 1:1 car is average in all those categories and you make up for it with model kits? :)

Even though I'm reasonably familiar with the 1:1 scale Austin 7 and BMW Dixi I know what you mean, somehow I didn't make the connection with the size the kit would be.

Nice, I am very fond of the full-size TR3.

Yep, my real car is pretty ordinary.  I hope that won't always be the case, but needs must and all that.

Was looking at the Takom MAZ & KZKT combo, then ended up straying onto the plaza Japan page, that's where it all went wrong. Now winging its way round the world to me is:

Aoshimas 1/24 Daihatsu Copen L880K - A different kit I've not seen built in a long time

spacer.png

Aoshimas AE86 TRD 1/24 - Wanted to build an AE86 for a while and plumped for the TRD version

ACtC-3fN-Ci3nzjQvlQs3mbehEy_fOfUdaIrjV84

Aoshimas R30 Skyline 1/24 - The kit should have some nice details I hope.

ACtC-3dwOvClUgtxQpWv7fhcH_lnjvIm7cdqyStB

Tamiya Porsche 935 in 1/12 - Also with the photo etch

ACtC-3dty7NPNVMF5SgSazZ-951zxkYZB9zPd9l1

Couldn't get all of them cheaper by sourcing in the UK so Japan it is.

Wonder why they 'censored' the Martini logos on the front & doors but left the text on the spoiler & a couple of other places - weird....?!

It’ll be to do with the fact that a “Trade Mark” (the distinctive logo including the word Martini) is different licensable design “thing” from the company name. As Vessa says, though, they obviously sorted it out in time for the decal sheet! Maybe the photo is from running an LC2 in Historics and whoever was doing THAT at the time hadn’t got a logo licence...

Best,

M.

That's interesting Matt, I'd never even considered that people running in historic motorsport would even have to consider licensing past liveries - I wonder how many actually do?!

@keefr22 More interesting thing is that Martini logos are fully in decal sheet.

I do like that Iraleri are now doing that - they've also included Marlboro decals in the BMW M1 re-release - I'm fed up with having to spend extra on aftermarket sheets for kits like the Beemax quattro and M3....!!

Clearly the people who now run it have paid their dues, logo-wise!

Does it actually mention that in the article Matt?

Have to admit I've never heard of that mag - but then I haven't actually bought a magazine since my sub to Octane ran out over a decade ago!

Magneto is pretty good, but if you only want to invest in one high end petrolhead magazine, then I’d highly recommend The Road Rat...

It’s not cheap, but each issue is like a paperback coffee table book. Lovely design and really in-depth, high-quality features. It takes days to read, not hours...

best,

M.

Whilst browsing EBay the other day I happened upon a 1/43 Heller Mercedes 450SL which didn't seem to be attracting much attention , so decided to have a bid on it and ended up winning it for a little over 9 quid plus postage . It arrived yesterday and is a really nice little kit , as are most of Heller's 1/43 cars .

I was expecting to have to buy aftermarket decals for my Italeri Mk.2 Escort as the box art shows "Racing" but inside the decals are all set out as "Mans" and "Roth".  And its all shown correctly on the instruction sheet.  I can't see why they bothered to split up the name on the decals as it's still set out properly on the decal for company badge on the bonnet!

I think it may have to do with rules on tobacco and alcohol advertising. If they wrote Rothmans on the outside of the box they might not be allowed to have the box on display in many countries.

I think model kits are probably still classed as toys, so it’s advertising to kids rules that apply, which are even more stringent! Rothmans list of brands is a who’s who of motor sport sponsors: JPS, Gold Leaf, Peter Stuyvesant, Rothmans, State Express 555, but they’ve been defunct for 20 years with the brands now owned by British American Tobacco...

best,

M.

I must now buy the magazine above as well now! I am a serial magazine buyer but have never heard of this one. There was a Lancia racecars special a few months ago in Motor Sport,Lancia LC1 ,LC2,Lancia 037 etc. I was forced to buy that one! My latest must have magazine is now the German Automobil Sport. Yes, I figured that but it still seems odd the "toy" and instructions inside effectively still have the cigarette advertising! 😁
