Might have been a bit extravagant.

This is my second XK120, I've not built the fist one yet but there are so many options even if you just go for what's in the box that one kit was never going to satisfy.

Sticking with Jaguars, a local model shop announced some new arrivals on its Facebook page, so I immediately asked for one of these to be put aside for me.

I also asked the shop to see if it could get this kit for me, which solved a problem as the owner couldn't remember who'd ordered the Lotus Super Seven.  I built one of these decades ago, so I'm eager to have another try.

Nice one, eventually I would like this and their XKSS, they seem to be as rare as rocking horse droppings ☹ I also have the e-type coming for Christmas (because who says you have to grow up)

I also for some reason acquired a 1/1 scale Morris Marina Estate, so this resin body kit took my fancy.

Marina resin

I may make it stock, or turn it into a replica of the current condition of my estate, either way, lots of scratching :)

Was browsing the web the other day while watching the F1, and ended up on Ebay, as you do, looking at a couple of models I had been watching that had rocketed up to silly money as usual. Then I stumbled across this sat with 1 bid at a fiver. Yes it had been started, but from the pics it was complete and didn't look like a glue bomb that had been painted with a stick. So I put a bid on and got it for another 50p. It came today and the sub assemblies painted have been done well and with very little glue used to get things apart if needed. The decals look a little suspect, but Indycals do a set if I should need them.

It just goes to prove that bargains are still amongst the ones where people are asking 2 or 3 times the price for an old one jn a battered box, than you can still get  new and delivered from a dealer, but some people must buy them.........  🤔  Another one for the F1 stash :)

And the build quality would almost certainly be better.  🙃

I will say that that part is a bit of a myth, it's no better or worse than any equivalent Ford/Vauxhall/citroen of the time, less tinny. It is better built than every italian exotic of the period... probably better built than 1970s astons in fact, as somebody who has first hand experience of said vehicles!

But yes, it's not up to modern levels of fit and finish obviously 😁

I'll concede that point - I was only ribbing.  At least it won't have rusted like an early '60s Vauxhall.   😬

My dad said he had a 7 year old Vauxhall Viva as his first car, he bought it from a scrap yard because it was so rusty and the engine had to be rebuilt etc, a seven year old car now would be considered practically brand new. Metal coating tech has moved on a bit I guess, also why was it not obvious to enclose the front wheel arch area to the car designers of old, all the mud n crud just got stuck on the headlights and 'A' post 🤣 this Marina seems to have survived somewhat, still needs a bit of TLC, but it is 43 years old now so can be forgiven.

My grandfather drove Vauxhall Viva's back in the '70's and (early) '80's. I remember they were blue. And I also remember there seemed to be a new one every couple of years, of course I didn't know why that was at the time 🙂 ... Before that I believe he drove Cortina's, there's a picture somewhere of a red one with a white roof. After the Viva's he switched back to Ford, the Taunus. The last one he had was a dark brown 2 door automatic which I sometimes drove in the early '90's. His last car was a Fiat Panda though, which he drove for some years before the family decided he had become a danger to the rest of mankind! My father once whizzed past someone doing 30 on the motorway, in a tunnel. This turned out to be my grandfather in his Panda. From that point on he only rode the electric mobility scooters and even that was dangerous 🤣

In 1976 I had a 1972 Escort Mexico - it was as rotten as a pear, the shell was kaput ! Admittely it was a road rally car and had done a few events, but they were just road rallies, it had never seen a forest stage and you'd think it would have lasted a little longer given it was an almost top of the range car!

I picked this up on sale a couple weeks ago. It was from a shop about 40km from my place so I took advantage of their free shipping offer. Well, it ended up going approximately 3600 km to get to me thanks to a slight mix up with the post office. They thought Toronto was near Halifax.

Anyways, it arrived safe and sound so ultimately I can't complain.

For $120 CAD, I can't really complain about the price either.

Is that just versions of the XK120 OTS itself, or are you including things such as conversion to DHC, FHC or even an XK140?  I've a few of these as well - at least one will definately be a spatted steel wheel & hubcaps build.  Whilst later Jag sportscars look ok on wires, I've always thought that the 120 looks best with the full rear spats.  Haven't decided exactly what to do with the others though, but one will probably be losing its wheels & hubcaps to an Air Trax Mk10.  However I might also have to convert a Tamiya Mk2 into a Mk1 with full rear spats to match the first 120 too...
