What CAR/BIKE kits have you recently bought 2?

Saw that Jag on ebay too, and it took a lot of effort to pull myself away without bidding. Good couple of buys for you with those first two - not yet seen a 250SWB which doesn't look off so will be interested to see how yours turns out.

O.K. I'm a bit worried by your comments on the Ferrari 250, I hope I can do it justice.

@johnlambert That is not fair I don't even have one Mk 2. ;) This is one of the kits I really hope Tamiya will reissue one day I've been looking for one for ages and can never find one at a reasonable price. Same with the 250 SWB, still sad the Revell new tool was cancelled.

Keep looking, I hope I have at least proved that you can find the Mk.2 at a reasonable price if you are patient.  I think I was lucky that the one I bought finished just after another Mk.2 auction ended, which usually seems to depress bidding.

After watching the Colin McRae 25 documentury the other day, I thought I needed one of his 95 cars to fill a gap on the shelf, so I looked around and got hold of one, while looking around I found the Richard Burns 99 car for under £20  delivered, so I couldn't pass that one up could I ;)

Given that the Lotus 7 & Europa have reappeared, I reckon there is hope for the Jag Mk2.  There were quite a few other iconic cars that Tamiya kitted during that period which I am pretty sure have never been seen since (e.g. the Volvo estate BTCC racer & also the Alfa GTV), but the Jag has been re-released at least once already.

Sorry, didn't mean to put a downer on it. It was more that the body just didn't look right on the examples I saw (can't remember whose they were) rather than anything which suggested a particularly awful build process.

That's what I'm crossing my fingers on, and after the Europa was announced about two weeks after I got one off eBay I figured that if I did get hold of one Tamiya would reannounce it soon after. And as the stash is big enough as it is I thought I wouldn't tempt fate... :)

If kits you buy on ebay get announced for reissue shortly after please buy the entire Tamiya historic car series. ;)

I was under the impression that the ESCI 250 GT SWB was bad and that the Italeri one was good. But I haven't seen either irl and maybe I am thinking of another Ferrari...

I think that’s right: the Esci one, also available in AMT boxes is very odd shape-wise. The Italeri one has a lot in common with the 250 California Spider kit (which is why there’s some work to do to get a truly accurate Spider) and is a lot better. Sadly, unlike the Spider, it’s never been available cheaply from Academy labelled as a “Classic European Sports Car”...

best,

M.

I built the Italeri XJ220 many, many moons ago.

It built into a very nice replica.

My major memory is that the rear suspension was a bit delicate (or maybe I screwed up!) and kept falling apart. A major fiddle to repair as well...

On the whole though, a nice kit.

Enjoy building it.

Cheers,

Alan

I believe they do it quite often with smaller kits . It's not happened to me before but I know other people have had the same problem . I think it's inexcusable - if they can't afford to send kits out in a box, they need to put their prices up .

Just to add further to this , the other day I ordered another kit from Jadlam and , following my previous experience, specifically asked for it to be shipped in a box . It arrived today in a plastic bag with some cardboard wrapped round the middle of the kit's box , resulting in a rather dented corner . I will not  be dealing with them again and would suggest that anyone who prefers to receive their items in unblemished condition does the same .

I believe this is a new kit, it's a car I've always admired and my first Heller kit.

Unusual moulding for the body.

It's an old tooling, but hasn't been released for some time - dates to the late '70s / early '80s.

Heller moulded lots of this series in that way, especially the open cars, whereas the closed ones usually had a conventional one piece body.  Whilst it does require care, the result is that the doors are far more scale thickness, and there is also interior detail moulded to the inside of the bodyshell.  The Alfa-Romeo 1750 Zagato and Bentley 4 1/2 litre are done exactly the same way.

I'm guessing this is how they're able to offer free shipping on everything. I have to say I've had no problem with them in the past, but having had a number of kits from private e-bay sellers ruined by them shipping this way, I'd expect better of a 'professional' trader and will certainly think twice before ordering from Jadlam again.

We're moving house in April and I'm getting a lot more space to build models 🙂 .... To celebrate that fact I thought I'd build something big!

This arrived today, courtesy of @Andy J who slam-dunked this one in the dying seconds of an auction on e-bay for me 🙂 . Seller didn't ship to NL so Andy was happy to be a go-between.

This kit is getting quite rare, and the box is huge....

My biggest box up until now was the one Revell's Krupp Titan is in. This box is 1,5 times bigger still. What can I say, I'm a sucker for big boxes.

A huge amount of plastic in there...

And for fun, a comparison between the Scania T143's cab which is pretty big in 1/24, and the Pete's in 1/16:
