(Just ordered two myself!)

Hopefully eHattons will be sending the 5 I've got on order (at £4 a pop it would be churlish not to)!

+4 for me as well..

My original Hattons pre-order was for 2, however I doubled this after I purchased the colourful new Xtradecal JP set.

I'm planning to finish my Vampire T.11 in time to make an immediate start on one of these when my order gets delivered.

Looking at the kits contents - http://uamf.org.uk/viewtopic.php?f=55&t=14329it really looks like a modelling mojo reviver!!

Cheers.. Dave

I'm thinking of doing a Brawdy based camoflaged T.4 from this, are there any mods to be done?

James,

I don't believe there were any modifications beyond painting it in camouflage but I could be wrong, I have an old copy of PAM news which did a feature on JP's, I'll take a look when I get back home (I'm away for the weekend). The Xtradecal sheet gives options for a DSG/DG/LAG JP.4 and a later Barley Grey/LAG(?) aircraft - both very attractive schemes IMO.

Thanks Wez, they basically seem the same. Just wondered if there was the odd change in vent or something associated with the higher powered engine, guess there won't be much if anything.

They were smart looking aircraft at Brawdy!

Oh I see what you mean JP.3 vs JP.4 rather than standard trainer JP.4 vs TWU JP.4.

I've always believed the JP.4 was a JP.3 with the uprated Viper, my old boss who was an RAF navigator and instructor always said the reason why there were so few JP.4 is they were preferred over the 3 for their better performance and thus had their life used up.

I did read somewhere that there were differences in the tailplane and that the elevators were akin to those on the JP.5 but I've not been able to substantiate whether that was indeed the case or whether there was a difference between JP.3 and 5 tailplanes.

I seem to recall the exquisite little Czech Master JP T3/T4 includes a couple of very small intakes which must be added to the top of the fuselage to make a T4.

Interesting, a couple of extra intakes are fairly easy to reproduce, IF there was a difference in the tailplane/elevators then that could be slightly more problematic unless you had a scrapped Airfix T.5 in your gash bits box :hmmm:

I'm definitely going to look out those PAM News articles.

The T.4 intakes seem to be enlarged versions (T.5 size?) of those on the T.3s, does that sound right?

First the bad news, didn't get home on time from work due to horrendous thunder and rainstorms around Manchester.

The good news? two JP's in a box sat waiting for me when I arrived, and it looks great!

Just had a quick scan of the sprues, really nice panel lines. Bottom of the wing is in one piece so no problems with dihedral, interesting feature is the main undercarriage doors being molded in the wing, only the leg doors are separate which is good, as on the JP they only open when the undercarriage cycles anyway. In the same vain, there are alternative closed nose wheel doors as well, one has the two little molded open doors for the nose leg down option. All three tyres have flats molded on, nose wheel is molded on the leg.

Rudder is separate, elevators molded in one piece.

Three piece canopy. There are two alternative sliding canopies, one slightly wider than the other to allow the canopy to be shown slid back.

Two nice ejector seats complete with upper firing handles. Interesting option is an insert for the seat showing the straps, or two pilot figures in their place. Of course a nice aftermarket set would look great if you wanted. Cockpit cries out for some aftermarket as its all on view when open.

As is now the Airfix standard, a decal is provided for the instrument panel.

Decals are lovely as well. separate stencil markings positioning sheet provided, as well as the normal decal plan.

Might be jumping to the top of the build queue!

Perhaps get a copy of my Warpaint book on the JP as everything you need to know is in there.

I'm looking forward to building a whole team of dayglo red "Red Pelicans" JP T4s. :pilot:

Don't get the warpaint!

Its riddled with mistakes, typos and mis-labelled photos. Probably the worst of the warpaint series in my opinion. If ever a book needed proof reading properly, its this one!

After about 30 seconds research I'm of the opinion that AMB might be the actual author of the Warpaint JP book!

Maybe it is but it still needs a good proof read and corrections!
