lesthegringo
Guys, I bought Tamiya's XF-65 'field grey' for a Stug that calls out a Gunze color that I can't get any more. The Gunze field grey was exactly that, a mid grey. The Tamiya colour is definitely greenish, at best a slate gray. Is this accurate? I know that there could be variations in the mixes between the interpretations of paint colours (I'm more an aircraft modeller, and that provokes lively debate there), but this is really very different Cheers Les
JackG
Tamiya's field grey is for the Wehrmacht's uniform colour, but a similar colour was also used for gas mask containers, ammo boxes, etc. If it is the vehicle you are looking to paint grey, you want Tamiya XF-63, which was a topic here last month. regards, Jack
lesthegringo
Great, thanks - looks like I have some paint I'll never use! Cheers
dubster72
Les, if your STuG is an early version (pre February 1943) then Jack is correct in that the colour would be German Grey RAL 7021. Tamiya XF 63 would be a good base coat, but rather too dark for scale. Adding a few drops of white & then overspraying the upper panels will give a much more pleasing effect.
