Shermaniac
Nick suggested my 1/48th Italeri Stormovik but for the life of me it's hiding somewhere ne're to be found! So, it's the Shooting Star (Again!) Thought about doing the Monogram one but that's an older kit needing more care and attention.I'll see if I can get this one done this time. The other RF-80 is a half finished testbed.2 x 12 hour chunks is different for me as I usual build in 2-3 hour sessions with breaks so this will be a bit more intense than usual.Music: probably Gold FM so 60's to 80's and definitely no videos - too distracting.Food: I won't be photographing it as it eats into my model building time 😊 Edited August 28, 2016 by Shermaniac

Shermaniac
Update for 20:00 hrs (Tea, was just that, no foodies just yet) Cockpit: Completed (including the Instrument panel decal and seat PE) Fuselage: together front and rear sections and yes! I have added sufficient nose-weights Wings: together and waiting to be fitted to the fuselage a bit later Now to some actual food as I am now at an impasse with the build where bits do need to harden before I proceed What next you say? Shermaniac
Great start Shermaniac! Looks like an ambitious project for a quick build! Gotta push the boat out sometime I suppose. Tried the RF-80 last year and that didn't go so well but, it is also here and I may finish that one off as well if time allows. And if not, I can still finish it as it isn't elligible for the Blitz Build anyway. Trying some new techniques/paints to (for me that is) so, fingers firmly X
SleeperService
New techniques are always good. Cracking on well there. I'm snapping at your heels though.

Shermaniac
It's all gone quiet down Leicester way??? I'm still here Update: 00:35 and still session 1 (1hr 27mins to go) Fitting the Wings to the Fuselage was never going to be easy as the gap is greater than it should be but ...... A tiny bit of filler goes a long, long way Canopy is ON, Nose glazing is ON, both are masked off ready for paint I know Nick, before you say anything, I did it this way instead Undercoat soon Mask has to dry first I may get a spray coat on before this session ends tonight???
Shermaniac
Update at 01:48 on Sunday 28th August 2016 Calling it for tonight with 14 minutes in the bank! If you hadn't guessed I'm going with an all metal finish on this - might as well go the whole hog! Going to try and spray Vallejo Metal Colour paints - basically, shiney water..... And yes, I do see the flipping gap it wasn't there earlier! Looks quite sleek here in her white undercoat Tomorrow (or later this morning) will bring the new bit! Going to let the aircraft dry off fully while I get some kip!

Shermaniac
Session 2 : It commences at 12:01pm I sprayed Vallejo Metal Colour Dull Aluminium over the white undercoat. As this is shiney water, it did what water does so I thought, and thought??? I got a wide, soft, flat headed brush and brushed out the imperfect paint finish whilst still wet. I went 'with the airflow' and did a quick 'spot spray' where needed. This seems to have worked so I'll wait a while so it can dry as it may need another coat but so far No undercoat white on the undercarriage doors or ailerons but did the same technique of spray then brush out the issues Works for me So, whilst all this lot is drying it's off to do the wing and drop tanks (or Bombs) Oh Yes, just for accuracy ...... whilst cleaning my airbrush, the locking nut for the needle escaped it's confinement (woe is me!!!) After a search (hahaha) I have 'borrowed' another from a spares airbrush (another tale of woe) to be able to continue so, if you find the locking nut and while you're there, a trigger compression spring --- they're mine! Once the Metal finish is too what I'm happy with, it will get a satin/matt varnish then decals etc Should know in about an hour

SleeperService
While I am mired in enamel paint drying times you take advantage and leap ahead. But I shall be there at the end. I give your acrylic paint a Paddington Hard Stare.

Shermaniac
Update 15:45 95% of the decals are now on the aircraft Just a few left for the wheel-bay doors And yes, to those of you who know this aircraft, I haven't done the black yet It's back to be varnished to lock in the decals first, then mask off for the black a bit keggy-handed but I'm going to try it this way The decals on this kit are extremely thin and needed to be softened in water then I used Micro Set/Sol to bed them down A couple of almost disasters with fold-overs was tense for a minute or two but I managed to solve it. only 6 hours left :guitar: :guitar:
