Nigel Bunker
Does anybody know the colour of the rigging wire on Gladiators? I have one to rig and would like to stretch the right colour of sprue. The machine is a camouflaged one from 112 Squadron in 1940, if it makes any difference.
wyverns4
IIRC they were milled from stainless steel rod to the required airfoil cross-section . Christian, exiled to africa
Work In Progress
Yes: which means you really want to stretch thin flat strips of plastic sheet rather than circular sprue, then you can (if you are careful and lucky) get something that closely resembles the the streamline section rather than a circular cross-section cable. Jon Kunac-Tabinor
While the above two posts are correct, I'd say just use whatever makes life easiest for your rigging, and paint it a dull steel colour. RAF Wire may have been flat airfoil shaped at 1/1 scale but knock that down to 1/48 or 1/72 and I'd argue it's a moot point. Black Knight
The interplane rigging wires were painted in the adjacent camouflage colours vis; light earth and light green as per the lower wing counter shading.
