phil1
1/144 Ilyushin IL-96T Aeroflot Russian Airlines RA-96101 The IL-96T is freighter version of the IL-96-400 with Pratt and Whitney Engines rather than the Aviadvigatel. The kit is by Eastern Express and is based on the IL-96M. The aeroflot colours and Pratt and Whitney engines were short lived, the airframe now operates for Polet Flight. the new and the old (below)

Radleigh
Polet went bust, this airframe is now in storage and was talked about being put into a passenger config for Cubana. Great model, not a nice kit or an easy one!

Jessica
Did you make the wings removable? That's a nasty gap at the roots. I don't remember my Il-96 being quite so bad, but then I glued and puttied before painting so my memory might be faulty. The rest of it is absolutely beautiful. There's something about that Aeroflot 1973 scheme which is timeless, and makes almost any airframe look good.
Alex1978
A great build of a not so great model kit.You sure nailed it and the old Aeroflot scheme is classy stuff Beautiful work
Meatbox8
What a beautiful model of what is, I must say, a very good looking aeroplane. A beautiful smooth finish.

Your right about the wings roots....in the pre-assembly I swear the gap was minimal! I think if I want to polish the wings separately I am going to have to think ahead next time

Great model, not a nice kit or an easy one! I hope so, such a shame that there's so few still flying - although I heard a rumour that they were possibly going to resume production at some point or redevelop into something else? Darren Rhodes
Indeed, I too love Russian airliners, especially the big 'uns! And that is a thing of beauty, most impressive! So, I may be prejudiced, but I did not think any Eastern Express kit could turn out like this? What is the fit like? Are there any other Eastern Express kits worth building? Darren absolutely, its a shame we haven't seen a proper passenger version of the IL-96 as its physically very impressive. the eastern express kit was awful! to make things worse i bought it second hand with pieces missing and dried glue in places! the most detail on the kit was the rudder so at least i didn't have to worry about losing detail. putting the fuselage halves together was a nightmare as i initially had more success gluing my hands together. the only other eastern kit ive done was the 737-300 kit and the less said about that the better

Both these are old Polet machines, brought back from storage, refitted and now flying.

Darren Rhodes
Phil, thanks for the advice on Eastern Express, certainly doesn't show in your finished model. The "proper" version of PAX carrying Il-96 is PAS Modelshttp://airlinercafe.com/forums.php?m=posts&q=8977 That looks rather nice, but the order process seems to be in Russian, never my strong point...

Darren Rhodes
Ping if you need assistance Thanks Alexey, will keep in mind. Google Translate managed to do a good job of translating the page. 3500 RUB seems to work out around £40ish, pretty good for a large full resin kit.
