Trumpeter 1/48 Savoia-Marchetti SM.79-II Sparviero (Hawk)

Recommended Posts

Hi people, so an out the box build, with just a little mod to open up the hump, otherwize a stright foreward job......but then came the camo....the model is all brush painted so took a few days to paint needless to say. Hope you like.
ohhh and the decals were a nightmare as they would not peel from the backing, theres only 10 of them and 6 gave me trouble but all was fine in the end, I elected to have the codes on the white panel because TBH you could not see them on the camo otherwise. So not bothered that it's wrong like that.
Found me a hot sunny airstrip :)

Very nice indeed and I love your super clean unweathered approach to modelling, too many models nowadays are severely over weathered and often because people think they should go with a trend just because it's the current vogue? Personally I don't like that and commend people like yourself who display individuality in their work? It is after all, just a model and as such was never 'in battle' so to speak, but each to their own if that's what they like .... but I prefer your style and that is some super neat brush painting!!

Very well done sir!! :Tasty: :Tasty: :coolio:

Thanks Kev

Yes indeed I do clean as I also collect die cast models and of corse they come with the factory finish too and they don't do this in metal yet so had to build one

Excellent kit with a lovely finish ......... but some aircraft did get well used too, it is good to see all types of finishes.

A fantastic and very well painted Sparviero.

This camouflage could turn me very quickly mad, but you made a piece of art of it.

About the weathering, I can say that I agree 100% with Mr Modeller.

I never weather my models, they all are just off factory.

Great job you did there Triumph!!!

One has to admit the Italians had a lot of style (and still have)!

Beautiful aircraft, great camos, etc...

Your Sparviero is gorgeous and is a hell of a tribute to the brave crews who flew them. One had to be slightly mad to fly a torpedo-totting plane, whichever side one fought for!

Congratulations

JR

Thanks for your comments people

I guess these count as a sort of work in progress, but I just wanted to record the build with the painting and the build up of the camo and in the early stages how I was still going with a closed up hump but I'm very pleased I modded and opened it up

No 1/48 Italian ground crew out there that I know of, so I volunteered a few Germans and gave then a new uniform
