Bozothenutter
Looking for an interior for the aux intakes for the D...they don't seem to exist...but others do....which one could be used as they are quite different in their detailing.
Don McIntyre
IMO, use whichever one fits. You can't really see much up in there anyway. I take it you're referring to the two doors under the fuselage?
Bozothenutter
Been looking at the kit and pics of the area.....will probably just wing it and box it in with a concave floor and some gubbins. Doors really need replacing though.
Air-to-Air
What was visible in those auxiliary doors probably depended, to some extent, on the engine that powered the aircraft. As you may be aware, the F-4D was powered by the General Electric J79-GE-15 engine. I think you’ve already identified that Aires offers auxiliary air intakes for the Academy 1/48 F-4B/N and the Hasegawa 1/48 F-4E/F. The F-4B/N was powered by the General Electric J79-GE-8 engine and the F-4E/F by the J79-GE-17A. There doesn’t seem to be much in the way of the auxiliary air door images online but those of an F-4F suggest that Aires may have been a bit light on with the detail when designing the F-4E/F option. Whilst it may not be technically accurate to use the F-4B/N option it offers a good level of detail and a set of accurate doors. No doubt some minor modification may be required to fit the set but that may be a lot less effort than scratch building the whole area (without detailed reference images).
