Either end does tend to get rather cluttered, though, and I don't get frustrated enough to tidy up nearly often enough. Which reminds me... Thankfully my cat seems to appreciate that the desk itself is off limits. Which is impressive since every other horizontal surface in the house apparently isn't. Lap of course is fair game. 2
JasonC
I was working away most of last week, but managed to pack enough painting material to make some progress on the pilot (or Nav!) figure. This is where he was after the airbrushed highlighting stage. Starting to lay down the base colours with very thin coats. These are mostly a mix of Vallejo and GW paints. Slowly adding more layers of colour. Around the back... Here's where he is at the moment. I've started picking out the shadows and highlights by brush, and done a little blending. He's still a bit pasty faced - haven't touched the flesh tones yet.
JasonC
Starting to mask off the edges of the metal panels for a spot of chipping. In the first instance I'll just be using a lighter version of the base colour, rather than anything too drastic like bare metal.
Cookenbacher
The crew figure looks great Jason, your preshading has worked a charm. Impressive knowledge of your subject, to be specifically chipping the metal panels.

You’d never live it down. 😉 Besides, Tamiya helpfully sprinkle some recessed rivets on the metal bits!
Crimea River
Great looking model Jason and a lovely job on the figure to boot. Looking forward to the weathering. Andy

JasonC
Spent the evening doing more on the figure. Added a little more shading, darkened the boots a bit, and starting on the fleshtones. More on the face, and the eyes. Aaaaaaannnnd breathe again. 😬
JasonC
More or less done on the figure I think. I tried to paint up the goggles to give a glassy effect. Just the basing left to do.
JasonC
And onwards with the weathering. In brief: - Panel lining with the Tamiya accent product (for the Medium Grey). - Ditto with black/brown oil paint and thinners (for the Dark Green and Ocean Grey. - Chipping with a sponge and various acrylic paints (not Silver!). - Leading edge chips with water colour pencils. (Maybe a bit more of this once the matt coat is on). - Light oil streaking with an AK enamel product. Trying not to overdo it, although the Merlin installation in the Mossie seems to have been prone to some fairly heavy staining on occasion!
stoohoo
Looks brilliant Jason, lovely subtle weathering. Been watching your thread since the first post and loving seeing this come together. I'm building the very basic Airfix NF.XXX at the moment but very tempted towards trying a future two stage mossie using the Tamiya kit with your nacelles. Keep up the good work, Stu Edited February 9, 2020 by stoohoo

JasonC
Flitting back and forth a little, so now it's back to those target indicators. I've refined them a little to better resemble the few photos that are out there. As far as I can gather they had a 1/2" red band, 8" from the nose (to indicate explosive contents) and possibly another to indicate the colour of the marker. Plus stencilling, which I have no clue how I'll tackle yet,
Mozzy19
That’s really looking rather good Jason. I shall attempt to incorporate some of those weathering techniques on my next Mosquito. Sean
JasonC
Painting up the target indicators. Underpainting for the stripes and stencilling. Decided not to make use of the green in the end. Masking up. Sprayed black (actually dark grey) and beaten up a little with sponge chipping. Then masks off! With a small brush and black paint, paint out anything that doesn't look like '250 LB' A little more stencilling. The (almost) completed pair. Not perfect but hopefully should look okay under the wings.

Thanks. It's only an approximation, as can be seen from the image below. But hopefully the overall effect is close enough. Oddly enough, no one makes a set of stencil decals for obscure WW2 British ordnance!
franky boy
Nice work on those bombs Jason. The pilot figure looks the part too. I also wish I could train our cat like yours to keep off the modelling desk! James
JasonC
Undercart ready to go. These are Ultracast resin wheels drilled through to accept some aluminium rod. Otherwise the default assembly process requires sandwiching the wheels in between the two halves of the leg assembly, which in turn makes it much harder to gap fill and paint the legs. And finally standing on her own three feet,

I wanted something Pathfinder specific that would really represent the type of ops that the squadron carried out. Shapeways has done alright out of me on this build! One of the final details, the Oboe antenna to be mounted under the fuselage just aft of the bomb bay. This is the antenna for the later 10cm wavelength Mk.II Oboe system (the earlier Mk.I Oboe system operated at 1.5m wavelength and the antenna was entirely inside the rear fuselage). The antenna itself was a slotted waveguide (basically a hollow square tube) covered by a clear(ish) fairing. This one was designed in a simple 3D programme (as with the TI's) and printed by Shapeways.
