DIO
The price for MDR4804 is considerably high, especially since it almost equals the price of the actual kit! But I have to admit that it does look good and if I was to build a black birdy, I would go for it... Edited August 23, 2016 by DIO

Caerbannog
Italeri will rerelease the old Testors kit next year, which is very basic, ill fitting and got the nose shape wrong IMHO but looks imperssive on the shelf. Hypersonic announced detail sets two or three years ago and then decided to make a complete kit. http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234990411-148-lockheed-sr-71-blackbird-by-hypersonic-models-in-progress/?hl=blackbird I am not sure if this is still in the makeing as Tanmodels announced a new tool SR-71 in 1:48 as well. But I suppose this will not be in 2017 http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234967245-tanmodel-172-148-132-projects/page-2?hl=blackbird#entry1904129 René

That said, these upgrade parts for the Testors kit do look very nice indeed, especially the intake spike and mice assembly! Jeffrey
Caerbannog
Good to know Jeffrey. I was actually wondering wether you combined forces with TanModels. Hope to see the X-15 sets back some day btw. ;-) René

Air one
Got both set. Photoetch is very fine and will sure enhance the kit, especially on the exhaust side ! All the mesh part are really delicate and will considerably give a "real thing" look ... Regarding the resin inlet: they are bubble free, and with really thin detail and look lifelike. The shipping service is quick, and the packaging sturdy. The only drawback: it is F......G expensive ! Roughly 100 euros for both.... But I have 2 snake waiting for it..so it will be really useful! Uncle Uncool
Yeh, but me's afraid that "they're" shape of the nose would still be all wrong all "them" same, as the height of the whole cockpit area needs to be stretched at least 5 millimetres. It's the thing I've been battling with for "they're" last 10 years. One thing which is positive about this new fix by Metallic Details bit is that it gives the modeller an aproximate idea of both the top and side view outlines of the nose. Then one would need to add sheet styrene to the top of the nose in order to stretch the round shape of the forward fuselage, and also, shave down most of the chines in order to make the new resin correction nose fit the new outlines of both the cockpit area in the forward fuselage. Now, I doubt I would agree to pay 23 quid for all that. Yeh, me does... Cheers, Unc2
