Pin
I have some massive plans for this GB so let's get started with RusAir Tu-104B offering This seems to be an easy way to put a replica of iconic soviet airliner on your shelf comparing to AModel Indeed - put together 6 parts and the plane is almost ready
pinky coffeeboat
Well, that was quick. The Rusair model looks to be very well moulded. Jeff
Pin
Yes they are. I built a couple before, Il-62 and Il-18, very pleasant and trouble free builds. This particular kit has a couple of minor fit problems but nothing that a reasonable amount of putty and sandpaper could not solve
POTKC
That looks phenomenal! If all RusAir offerings are this good, my An-140 will be great fun to put together! Anyway, I look forward to seeing this reach completion.
Skodadriver
That's looking great Pin. RuaAir kits are among the best in the business. I'd go so far as to say I prefer them to Authentic Airliners. I had thought about the Tu214 as a possible GB entry although I eventually changed my mind. However it will be my next project once the GB is finished

I'd love to find either Cubana or CAAK decals for it. Anyway, back to the Tu-104B here. It's light years away from the Amodel effort that I'm slowly progressing. Alexey, have you seen the AWM Models resin version of this aircraft? It was one of the first full resin kits I bought. It's a very nice kit, a few more parts than the RusAir kit. Jeff Purely a personal opinion although I realise some people might want to burn me at the stake for heresy. Pin's brilliant build has really started me itching to get on with my next RusAir model although one of the downsides of offbeat subjects is the lack of aftermarket decals. If PAS and Ascensio don't make Cubana and/or CAAK it's very unlikely that anyone else will.
Pin
Jeff, yes, I've seen AWM kit and I would rate it higher than RusAir effort. The problem was that AWM was released after I obtained RusAir and I don't need two Tu-104s
POTKC
What I really want is the RusAir Tu-124, to build the one that ditched on the Neva in 1963.

zebra
This looks so much better than the Amodel kit. I enjoyed the Amodel build, but the filler and sanding sticks got a good workout.
Jpthedog
I will be watching closely Alexey as I am building the Amodel version for this GB! I am at the priming, filling, sanding, priming stage!
Pin
Done with Pe-8 so continuing with Tu-104 Applying transparent epoxy Few minutes later
Romeo Alpha Yankee
Is there any particular brand of Epoxy you are using Alexey? How long does it take to set and rework?

How long does it take to set and rework? Nothing fancy, just "usual" 5-minute transparent epoxy. I think I bought this pack at some petrol station. If the proportion is right and stirred well it settles, as advertised, in 5 minutes and becomes rock hard in 15. I give it one hour before sanding just to be double sure. As the substance is quite liquid I do each wing separately to let the epoxy flow in desired direction before it settles and forms a nice drop
Jessica
That certainly looks as though it's going together better than my poor long-suffering OKB 144 kit.

Or my stop-start Amodel kit. I keep getting it out, then remembering why I put it away then I put it away! The couple of builds here have given me a bit of renewed enthusiasm to have a go at it again. Jeff

Pin
White top, micromashed The decal supplied is not correct, it is clearly seen that there is no white between upper and lower cheat lines. Will need to trim
Pin
Unforeseen difficulties Old method to prevent overspaying - blow some white over mask before aluminium A couple of Alclad coats with intermediate micromeshing. CliffB
I'm just catching up with this one Alexey. Looking good and I think that Tupolevs always look best with a CCCP registration! Cliff
pinky coffeeboat
Great progress. I always felt that in some photos it looked as though it was a very pale blue between the cheat lines!
