Stripping Chrome Plating

Hi guys,

I was wondering how y'all strip the chrome off plated plastic pieces in prep for painting. I'm working on Tamiya's Renault Alpine 442 and the plated wheels look horrid. I am planning on painting them with Alclad after stripping them.

Thanks,

Jake

Give the parts an over night soak in bleach - has never failed for me.

I always do a test on a small piece of sprue first to check, mind you.

Mr. Muscle oven cleaner works a treat. I spray it on the parts then bag them or put them in a container. Don't do it near your other models on display though because I heard about the fumes damaging them too. Always leave my pieces outside in the shed overnight!

I use a GU glass desert jar, but any dish would suffice, just use normal household bleach, give them a good soak for about 10 to 15 minutes, sometimes you need to use an old toothbrush to get some stubborn bits out of crevices but generally it just comes off, rinse and clean.
