Romeo Alpha Yankee
The engines are in the process of now being fitted I have almost finished all the mods I am making, One more item to scratch build before a final putty and rescribe. I have added a few ports to the rear fuselage (under the rear door), they have warning markings around them so I think they are some sort of exhaust ports? Image from Prime Portal [/IMG] The final engine is installed

TonyTiger66
It's good to see this one being given some tlc again Ray It's had quite a journey from where it began. I feel that its days on the side shelf of doom may be over and maybe paint could be along soon? Very nice detail work on antennae and engines. Best regards TonyT

Yes, I hope to have it ready for paint soon, I just need to make sure I have enough of the grey.
Romeo Alpha Yankee
I have been tinkering with the E-8 and managed to install the wing tip HF antennas. I also splashed some paint over it only to find I needed to do some touch-up filling (spitfire for size comparison) [ Parked on the shelf of doom after I noticed the paint issues Since these shots I have knocked the nose gear off twice and a couple of the antennas which are back on. Time for a final sand and repaint of the base colour before masking up the engines, canoe fairing, and landing gear
greggles.w
Keep at it Ray - nice to see this resurrected machine progressing. I recall it seemed enormously ambitious when I saw it .. but you are steadily bringing it to a conclusion. Good work!
Killingholme
Just thinking, if you have all the 'AWAC' parts left over, you could buy the re-issued Heller Boeing 707 kit and combine them to make a model of the EC-137 (the E-3 protoype).
Uberdave1
Hi. my J-Stars project is in a holding pattern at the moment but I am in serious need of your unused fan blade PE. Any way I could entice you to mail it to me? I got a B-52H project in the embryo stage and want to see if I can pull off the same trick I did with my J-Stars by cobbling the AWACS engine parts into the H's twin pods. As you may be aware, the Italeri/AMT H's engine pods are about 20% under scale and I'm kit bashing an old Monogram kit with some AMT parts to build the Skybolt demonstrator Buff. There's a few out of production correction pod sets out the but I think I can do a better job of scratching it with your spare PE blades. Thanks, Dave

The 707 is wider (for Pan-Am's requirement for 6 a breast seating) and not as "round" as the -135. It's a different aeroplane . Romeo Alpha Yankee
This one is back on the bench. I have sanded back some bad paint, filled some bad rescribing and refitted a couple of broken off antennas. Once I fix up the filled scribing it will be time for some primer and start on paint (again)
TheyJammedKenny!
Wow, Ray! Way to keep after this one! I've built two Heller 707s and yours is really on-spec. You've had a lot of complications with it, but admirably pressed on. BTW, I understand the USAF is in the process of, or has retired these JSTARS aircraft and opted for something less interesting and more jargon-laden (like "distributed network" blah blah blah) as their replacement. Romeo Alpha Yankee
Well another 8 months has passed and I found this one one the shelf. It is now back on the bench to finish up. Not sure why I stopped work on it back in October but I had most of the paint done then. So some filling of dodgy scribing and repair of some antennas has happened over the past couple of days. I also added the MLG Wheels and reattached one of the MLG legs that separated. Once the putty sets some sanding to be done and paint touch ups.
loloskymaster
Hello, Great build, so far. I have just discovered this long flight detailling thread and I have to admit it is well done. This makes me remember a video on Youtube with a E-8C at Ramstein AB. If you do not know yet, this could be useful for your build with this high quality views. TheyJammedKenny!
Excellent work on this, RAY. The engines looks well aligned, to me. It seems you've built a 707 or two before!
Romeo Alpha Yankee
Thank guys I got some painting and decalling done Which was going well... until I destroyed the USAF title decals on the fuselage broke apart, I had to rob another E-3 sheet for replacements The green tailbands also broke up and after a poor touch up job I decided to remove them and repaint them. The wingtip antennas were also casualties which now have been repaired and repainted and then the USAF on the wing got wrecked when I was attempting to settle it down with decal softener. The underwing one also broke up. The recovery has started, the dud decals removed and areas resprayed . Now to add the last decals and finish the tailband repaint

Yes they are, all worked fine except for the the blue USAF titles that cracked up a bit. I had some other spares which saved the day. All finished now...
TheyJammedKenny!
Beautifully done, and nice recovery on the decals. The USAF and U.S. AIR FORCE titles are always a pain, and for a kit this size in 1/72, especially so. I feel your pain, but you've done well. It's a monster of a kit, size-wise.
