Spot of the day!

The SVX never came with pop ups. Do you mean the XT? If so there are only 18 left in the UK with only 4 currently on the road, of which only 1 is a manual.

But I definitely saw an SVX lol.

At a trade show in the early 90s a Subaru rep was presenting a turbocharged (or maybe supercharged?) XT6 as a SVX or SX. I can't find anything on it anywhere online. Was it vaporware? There where a lot of cars from that era that where slated for production at these shows but where never actually delivered. Some like that one, were really unique.

Either that or I'm flat out going crazy. Maybe both. But I'm positive it was there...

How do you know exactly how many are still on the road in England? I did a nation wide search on a car selling website, there is only one XT for sale in the entire US. It's yellow BTW.

But yeah for all intents, I was talking about an XT.

The XT6 which wasn't sold in the UK, was sold as the Alcyone VX in Japan I think so it could have been a jdm import you saw? And the dealer was maybe testing the market to see whether it'd be economical to officially import them?

I searched on howmanyleft.co.uk Searching Subaru XT also brings up the Subaru Forester XT. But it's interesting that the only model that was sold here was the turbo model. Whereas the US and jdm markets got the non turbo model as well as the XT6 :(

I had to look that one up. That's a really great looking car.

It's also kinda upsetting. I had already accepted that you're Escorts were better than ours, but you had take the Cavaliers too?

The Cavalier as the saviour of Vauxhall in the UK. They were a brilliant car in their range, and really gave Ford a run for their money. 1.6 or 1.9 litre.

Over to the East of England today.

A G (89) reg Escort RS Turbo in very nice nick near Norwich.

A Y (83?) reg Cortina Mk 5 1.6 Crusader bumbling along

a country road near Dereham.

A VERY noisy bright orange beach buggy on the A46 heading East.

And in Lincoln this evening, a 70's? Mini shell on a Suzuki? FWD chassis.

The Mini had RAF markings! So one of the Bomber County Mini's?

The driver and passenger were wearing ear defenders!

Poor man's Manta! LOL. I'd had a Manta Berlinetta followed by a GTE with all the Irmscher bits on...loved that car!

My dream car was the Mattig Manta with the wide body kit - I lusted after that car! Low and behold after searching the net I found this resin kit! :)

Hoping to be competing with some friends on a rally next month.

The son will be driving his freshly rebuilt Manta (old 2.4L went bang last year and has been replaced with a redtop) his father will be navigating, car's been in the family for at least 28 years as dad used it to compete on the 1988 Lombard RAC Rally!

Bit of a family heirloom :)

I've been looking around at all the American XT fan sites and may have discovered a clue. On the XT6 message boards, under the reference tab, they talk about an turbocharged XT that was proposed, but never actually built. It was supposedly abandoned for work on the SVX. There are a few collection who are trying to create this car in their restoration.

We weren't allowed to drive it, so it could have been a base XT with Turbo labels. Or it may have been the real deal. Who knows? I don't think it was an import, all the bits where on the "correct" side.

Spurred on by this, out side of the cancelled FWD Mustang and the attempted reintroduction of the Opal, I can't find any online records on these vapor ware cars.

I've looked up the ER27 engine thinking there might have been a turbocharged version in another model they could have swapped the engine from, but it turns out that the flat 6 was designed specifically for the XT6 and was only used in that model. The engine is so different from the EA82 and EA82T of the flat 4 XT's that swapping the turbos, ECU'S etc from the EA82T with a custom Manifold wouldn't work.

If Subaru themselves were thinking of turbocharging the ER27 it would have been a bit pointless, as at the time work was fully underway on the EJ series that replaced the EA series and the related ER27. What I think is more likely is that there was a company offering to turbocharge customers XT6's as a sort of dealers special. If the car you saw wasn't being driven then it was likely just a standard XT Turbo or XT6 with a decal package like you say to gain interest. If there wasn't enough interest then the deal was quashed and no cars were converted, which seems to have been the case.

A Wright Streetlite 11.5m bus on Arriva's 417 route from

Heswall to Liverpool. There are only five on Arriva's Laird Street fleet and they were specifically bought for the 487 Liverpool to Ness Gardens run due to the narrow streets of Neston, so I was surprised to see it on this other route, meaning that the common or garden Wright Eclipse was probably substituted.

Oh dear, I need a lie down. I'm talking bus thingies. The only true buses are Atlanteans and Nationals......

This might sound a bit of an odd question but was that Cortina in the classic light blue (Wedgewood Blue?) ?

That reminds me of visiting Brooklands museum years ago,did not know the area and spotted a bus so jumped aboard....It was like a b horrror movie scene as I looked round the bus - they were all smiling at me! then the penny dropped....It was a leyland national on a special service to the museum...

Little known fact but the old hanger that served as the Cobham Bus Museum at Brooklands was used for Barnes Wallis' early spin tests for his bouncing bombs! Only found this out recently as I was sent some unpublished photos (that I can't show). Bombs were surrounded by sandbags should anything go awry!!! :)

Today was the Skegness/Mablethorpe area.

How about a Ford Zephyr/Zodiac from about 1964?

The same as the old Airfix model, this one was green.

Also a gold Rover SD1.

One from yesterday I forgot, a brace of Dolly sprints

awaiting restoration in a garden.
