Spot of the day!

Recommended Posts

I saw an MG 1300 (or was it an 1100?) on a roundabout in Chippenham the other day.

Haven't seen one of those for several years (decades?).

Our local village garage has a Mk1 & Mk2 Escort Rally cars. Both powered by a race prepared Mondeo engine. Apparently it produces about 300 BHP...

There's also an Audi R8 in the local Volvo garage in Chippenham around the corner from my office.

Cheers, Alan.

Was out for a bike ride in Auckland (NZ) last weekend and a dark green Jaguar XJ220 burbled past on the waterfront. Now that's not something you see every day....especially out here in the colonies!

No idea what these are except to say that it's Liverpool and was last year when the street between the Liver Building and India Building were subbing for New York. This was for Florence Foster Jenkins with Hugh Grant and Meryl Streep.

BTW the two GI's never moved in three days filming!

Opened the front door today and a K reg 71 green Triumph Stag was passing, looked in good condition but it was not the green shade I thought they were. I have not seen one for years and had thought they had all gone to the rust heap in  the sky!.

My old man came over in his Alfa 33 sportwagen, not many of these about!

I was once the proud owner of this car's predecessor, an Alfasud.

Fantastic little car with the sweetest exhaust rasp you could ask for. Not as fruity as a Scooby, but more sporty I would say.

I used to wind down the window when going through tunnels or under bridges then change down a gear or two, then flatten the throttle pedal ! The noise was superb! Childish but fun!!!

Like all Italian cars, it did suffer from the dreaded tin-worm... :(

My spot of the week was a very shiny Vauxhaul Cresta Wagon. Given the location, it was possibly going for a roadworthy check. Drum brakes all round. Brrrr....

Anyway, a bloke of my vintage and temper was driving it quicker than conditions indicated. Cream and green, lick of chrome. All hubcaps and awful looking tyres. The colour seemed different to original by my recollection.

I wish i knew, the one at the back looks like a 40 Ford Coupe, the silver/grey looks like a Chrysler Airflow (if only i could zoom in on them),whatever though they're cars that were designed on paper by designers for drivers and not a computer in sight...Pure class...

Great guesses!

The angle of The photo makes positive id impossible,  I need to see grills and fenders to be exact. This is assuming all are original and not customs of course.

They all appear to be GM cars. Type A and B bodies most likely,

The first car is probably an Oldsmobile or Buick coupe.  It could be a Chevy or Poncho,  but most of those didn't ship with that much chrome.  The similar model Ford's have a much leaner looking body, with a super bulbous cabin.

The second car appears to be a Buick Special or an Cadillac 60 series.  The location of the headlights and the faux spares on the fenders are the main tells.

The cop car is the opposite of the red one. It's more than likely a Chevy Business Coupe or possibly a Pontiac Silver Streak or Torpedo.  The lack of chrome means it probably wasn't  a high end car.

The silver car has the unmistakable lines of a war era Cadillac.  If it was an Airflow the body would have a tapered look,  and the grill would be pointed,

They certainly are lovely.

Coolio! I have a third share in a 33 saloon! :)

Bought a few years ago for the Crumball Rally...got us all the way down to Turin (and back) safely! Still roadworthy and sits in my mates barn. The Crumball is a great event. Part of the rules are you have to purchase a vehicle for less than £200!
