Spot of the day!

Recommended Posts

'Spotted' on Saturday*, these with a number of others;

And the owner of this [a neighbour/friend] stopped off;

* I should have 'spotted' these more often than I did on Saturday; most of the teams got lost on the rally and missed numerous time control checkpoints

Sunny Felixstowe. You can even see the water in some pics. They park the cars along the promeande for about 2 miles. The buses and trucks are  on the service roads or the car parks.

A bumper haul on the M40 tonight on the way home:

  • Citoen Traction Avant, immaculate in black.
  • An equally clean TR3 in red.
  • A Mercedes L319 van
  • 2 McLaren MP4s, both in metallic orange.
  • Fiat 1200 convertible in red.
  • Lancia Fulvia

Obviously the sunshine brings the classics out.

On the A46 heading towards Cov I saw a purple VW Beetle which looked like it had been converted into a pickup. The photo is a screen grab from a dash cam, so not the best quality.

I can ditto the Morris Marina spot too,

Except mine was while waiting for a bus in Mellieha in Malta - Mrs Bonhoff was less enthusiastic about this spot, as she was about the Mk2 Transit that we saw later, replete with a very poor brush painted finish on it.

That could go into the "Prototype for everything," section, should one exist.....

Also an odd looking old VW van. Very much smaller than the old combi van. It looked like someone had grafted a VW front on to a Bedford Rascal [npciwd]

Saw another of these today. I don't think it was the same one. Had a big VW badge on t'front, bright yellow and bright orange paint job.

I didn't get to post yesterday, but saw a Citroen DS and that red TR3 again on the way into work on the M40.

On the way home a mustard yellow Austin 1300 and a very nice Alvis convertible.

Vauxhall Omega!

When was the last time you saw one of those, that's if you can remember what they look like?

Karl

Actually, it was today, an Omega  estate on a 53 plate in Kidderminster.

Not so much a spot of the day, but a round-up of the week!

A funny little open top, I think it was a post GTE scimitar, long after Reliant went belly up...

Any number of Aston DB7's & DB9's (almost as common as Porsches these days...)

A funny little kit car with a deux-chevaux engine and single rear wheel, in the office car park. It was so small, the driver looked as if he was sitting on it, not in it...

And finally, just outside Castle-Coombe race track, a Jaguar C-type replica! Drop-dead gorgeous 'twas...

Cheers, Alan.

Just returned from a checkpoint on the classic rally event on locally this weekend. Highlight was a car almost as rare as its Airfix kit - a Maserti Indy.

Also making an appearance were, among others, numerous Mercedes, Porsches, MGs, Alfa and Lancias. The area is also awash with GTIs which have arrived early for a major event in two weeks time. Spotting heaven!

Just drove from Banbury to Bicester and saw not one, but four Lamborghini Aventadors in convoy on the A43, presumably after a visit to Silverstone.

On the way back was behind what I think might have been an Aston Martin DBR2 racer.

And I saw another Omega estate on Thursday on the way home from work, a silver estate on a V plate in Sunbury.

Valletta, Malta today, all in the course of 200m.

A 1960's Opel Rekord  (I think), Opel Kadette (Mk1 Astra to us Brits), Sunbeam Alpine and Rover P4. Couple of tidy Mk1 Escorts, parked at the side of the road on bus journey back to hotel.

And keeping up the tradition of rubbish cars, a Hyundai Stellar...

Today on the Chester High Road and all within 10 minutes, a silver Mk.II Jaguar, a yellow TR.6, a VW 'splitty' campervan and a slightly later T.2 campervan.

And then slightly later a Tesla
