Spot of the day!

Recommended Posts

On the Bells Line of Road, near Mt Tomah, on my way down to Sydney last Saturday - a Rolls-Royce Silver Dawn, black (naturally ...), about 1951 or '52? No piccie, sorry - I was going east, he was going west, and IĀ couldn't get the phone up in time.

On the way home from work tonight....

Ā

A Rover P6 3500. I Still think this is one of the best cars Rover ever produced.

In the car at the time, so no piccies...

Had a delivery to Market Harborough today (plus other places down that way)

On the way, on a driveway on Abbey lane in Leicester was a blue Austin Maxi.

Near Stoughton road in Oadby was an Austin Montego in showroom condition!

And, on the way back, South of Lincoln, a brown Triumph Stag on wire wheels.

I live around the corner from Abbey lane and I've never seen an Austin Maxi. I must investigate lol.

Heading out of Doncaster Station to Meadowhall , yesterday, and on the right hand side of the train , in a yard is a light blue Lotus Excel . Doesn't look to have moved much in the last few years and looked a bit sweaty inside .Ā

Always wondered what one would have looked like if it was built to the WRC 2wd "Kit Car" rules and if so would be called an Austin Maxi Maxi...

Austin Maxi F2? Kit Car? I think only the French teams called their F2 Kit cars Maxi's. Although I think the Escort RS2000 Kit Car might have been called the Maxi too lol.

Been at Stoneleigh today for Race Retro and too many spots to list - they're also on my digital camera so it'll be a couple of days before I can get them uploaded.

Ā

In amongst them was an ex World Cup Rally Austin Maxi!

I was at Race Retro yesterday too. Very nice selection. And very impressed with the F2 kit cars out on the stage, first time seeing an Escort RS2000 Maxi too. And got to see Ari Vatanen hooning an Ex McRae Subaru Legacy. If you're there today and see the damage, you know why šŸ˜‰

Sadly Marku Alen wasn't able to make yesterday :(

Also on the way back from Race Retro yesterday I saw a car that whilst my friend told me the make, I've only just found out the model. It was a Gilbern Invader Estate in red on an old K reg.

Ā

I see where the Reliant Scimitar got it's looks now lol.

Was it my imagination or did I not see any Metros there yesterday?

Ā

There were a few 6r4's in the hanger in the morning, didn't see any on the stage though. And one was on the back of a trailer later in the day. A lot of cars didn't make it back out for the second running. The Sunny GT guys sheered their wheel studs on the first run. One escort was having it's rear axle taken out and the Sapphire Cosworth a friend of my friend was using needed new brakes after the first run. It was carnage lol.

I knew the 1800's were rallied but I never saw a Maxi.

Wonder if they had to weld the tailgate shut to add

strength to the bodyshell.

More likely to stop it falling off (an uncle had one in the mid 70s and it did)...
