Afternoon, 3rd week of being laid up from work so plenty of Bench time. Just finished this. It's a fun little kit and went together without a hitch. This is only the 3rd bi-plane I've ever clagged together, the first was the little revell 1:72 Fokker triplane and the other the old airfix Re.8. I picked it up for next to nothing at the northern model show and it makes a change from the usual WW2/Modern stuff. It might even convince me to finally crack open the big box of old Bi-planes the wife's Grandad sent up to me.

I was a bit worried when it came to putting the upper wing on, it looked a nightmare but the fit was so good once it was superglued on it was rock solid in a few seconds, it helped to paint the fuselage/lower wing beforehand. There's a little bit of photoetch in the cockpit (Seats/seatbelt and the controls on the side) from a set my dad had lying about, he's not one to attempt the stuff.

I just wish I was confident enough to rig one of these up.

Thanks for looking.

I thought adding a little bit more to the prop would break up the brown.

....and with these fat fingers too

Rigging the Nieuport isn't too difficult. One tiny landing gear nitpick though. The axle ran through the axle hoops above the V, not below it. It was suspended in there on bungee cords for shock absorption. If you can change it, it will sit much better on your shelf.

Here's a 1/1 replica under construction which shows how it works:

Awww darn, I'm blaming the instructions. If When I get another one I'll try the rigging on that. I think it was a case of I didn't want to get that far then balls it up.

Also after looking at that photo, the simplicity and fragility of them really shows, I mean Bungee cords for suspension. I know I wouldn't want to get in one then fight in it.

I use invisible nylon mending thread. There are two colours available hereabouts, and I used the darker colour. I used short cutoff sections of microtube to do the turnbuckles and wire loops for the anchor points.
