Hi everyone.

This is the old Academy 1/72 kitset. It's spent the last 10 years of it's life on the shelf of doom. So whilst it's not my best model, it's off the shelf and finished, which I'm pleased with.

I've done heaps of scratch building and modifying on this model, including:
Scratch built rear fuselage interior
Custom positioned figures in each station
Quickboost engines, which I've put ignition harnesses on each engine
Plunge moulded plexiglass front nosecone.
Custom made decals (thanks Peter Mossong)
Vacuum formed ball turret- complete with figure inside
Detailed guns with sights
Shallowing out the dihedral on the wings, which is a known issue with the Academy kit
Scratch built leading edge intakes, as they are excluded on the kit
Hollowed out gun barrels
Hollowed out exhausts

Enjoy,
Regards,
Alan

Alan, a clever way to display a model for those who like the "in flight" mode. If this is not one of your best, then you set the rest of as a very high standard indeed.

It's actually sad that we still have to struggle with various kits to make a decent model of a B-17 in 1:72.

And I don't think that the new Airfix will make much difference.

A nice idea and a decent model!

Another great build Alan!

I assume you used solid brass for the support post? Do you have a picture of the base itself?

Very nice presentation. Love it. Nice to see a in flight representation.

Academy's rebox, albeit soft on surface detail, still builds into a most acceptable 1/72 model of the B-17G once the excessive mainplane dihedral is corrected. Although with the unpainted birds, different shades of aluminium applied with skill in application -kudos to those who are, I'm not that skilled yet- can really alter the suspension of disbelief. I have their Special Nose Art Edition also with Cheyenne turret tail available along with Revell's much newer version - without the Cheyenne option OOTB, and neither are without flaw.

Wow! love the weathering, particularly the worn remnants of the Olive Drab, and the bombs dropping. You wouldn't know this is the Academy, serious kudos for all that work!

Wow, if that's not your best I would dearly like to see what is.

Clever presentation and great work on the nmf. Thanks for sharing.

man, this is top notch - and the presentation is really cool. Top finish, top presentation - doesn't get much better than that! That would look nice on my table! ;-)

Cheers,

Michael

Great job! Really like it a lot. How did you create the oil and exhaust streaks?

It's just been done with the AK oil stains, which is an oil based paint.
