snapper_city
Hi guys Here is how things are going. I have had a chat with the guy this is for and he has given the go ahead for a few extras. After pay day I will be ordering a Master metal refuelling probe, FreightDog decals for XM607, A base and a little something to go on the base I have seen on evilbay. On with the build I have done quite a bit of sanding on the intakes using a small dremel type rotary tool. It looked much better on the dry fit. These are not glued yet. IMAG1780 by Mark Inman, on Flickr IMAG1781 by Mark Inman, on Flickr I sprayed a coat of Tamiya white to see how things are looking. Still some work to be done. gazza l
Looking good Mark, those intakes are a devil to blend... I can remember struggling them!
Mark4700
Those intakes are really coming along now. I'm also at the smoothing the air intakes stage.
snapper_city
I did a bit more sanding this morning followed by another coat of white. Still more work required. Going to try make a big push on this next week. I would like to be at the stage of having the wings and tail attached closing in on primer. Getting bored of this build now as was shown by the building of 5 British airborne figures for a Bronco Jeep today when I tired of the big V. snapper_city
Hi guys Time for a little update. Things have stalled recently as we have put our place on the market so I have been decorating and sorting things out ready for viewings. Still no offers yet but things are very manageable and the place can be ready at about an hours notice. Today I had a bit of time so cracked back on with the Vulcan. A bit more sanding of the intake fitting which is now as good as I think it's going to be. Just needs another coat of paint to check. I have also bit the bullet and glued the wings on. While the wings were gluing I built the new Roden 1:144 C-141B Starlifter in under three hours. A nice simple build. IMAG2010 by Mark Inman, on Flickr IMAG2011 by Mark Inman, on Flickr Here is the Master replacement metal refuelling probe that I have fitted to the probe fairing. IMAG2012 by Mark Inman, on Flickr Here is a patch I picked up off evilbay to go on the base. Yes it's a few years late but it looks cool. IMAG2014 by Mark Inman, on Flickr FreightDog decals which are sublime compared to the kits out of register decals. IMAG2015 by Mark Inman, on Flickr Here are the two options for XM607 off the FreightDog sheet. The Black Buck 1982 version which I am doing and one from Red Flag 77 with desert camo on the underside. This is very nice and totally different for a Vulcan scheme. I don't understand the underside only though. Maybe it flew inverted when it went in for attack. IMAG2016 by Mark Inman, on Flickr Until next time.

snapper_city
Hi guys Today's update. I have cleaned up the wing joins and attached the tail cone. While this was drying (quite thick styrene filler cement) I continued on with the Starlifter. No wip for this one as it will probably be finished before I know it. Not a bad kit that has only required a touch of filler on small areas of the fuselage underside and the engine attachment points to the wings so far. Probably about 4-5 hours work into this so far. snapper_city
Don't do it. It's a dog. Lol. If you do have an episode and get one I will have a few spare decals going.
gazza l
I'm liking the Starlifter, I was very tempted to get one of these but I have to be strong... far too many models to do already! gazza l

Radleigh
I didn't see that Starlifter, and it didn't look great. I will buy one won't buy one. Good work on the Vulcan.

Good work on the Vulcan. The Starlifter is a tidy little kit. I was surprised by how little there was in the box. A bit like the Hobbycraft Caribou. It is literally falling together though. Hoping to have it and the Vulcan in primer next week.

Say, is that the pylon for the Dash-10 ECM pod that shows under the port wing of the Black Buck XM607 on the FreightDog decal sheet? Do ya know whether there's any plans in order to replicate this pylon?

I will probably just leave the pylons clean.
alex_stela
I`m working on the same 1/72 XM607 "Black Buck" Vulcan. After long research I think, that XM607 had only one pylon under stbd. side with AN/ALQ-101v10 ecm (same as on Buccaneers and Jaguars) and it`s definitely not standard pylon! It` better seen here: http://www.aviacionargentina.net/foros/attachment.php?attachmentid=15918&d=1391622065 Has anybody better pictures of it?
snapper_city
Wow, I have not seen these pictures before. Unfortunately the pylons are already stuck on so they will probably stay that way. Thanks for the information.
Colin @ Freightdog Models
Nice work on a classic kit, glad your using my decal sheet to! That pylon shown is included in the old C-Scale set (AC9) along with a simplified AN/ALQ-101 pod (I do a better resin pod only but its out of stock at the moment). According to the C-Scale instructions the pylons in the Airfix kit were used later on in the conflict, and all five aircraft were seen post-conflict at Waddington with the Airfix style pylons and Shrike training rounds. It also says the AN/ALQ-101 was only carried starboard side on the early pylon. Smudge
Hi Snapper. Just caught up with this one. Nice work, I especially like the way the intakes have come out. Shows it can be done with a bit of old fashioned modeling/determination. By the way, I have the Anigrand 1/72 C-141A 'lifter in the (what I like to call) stash. What was I thinking? that 1/144 one is massive!

She is definitely taking a bit of manual labour to put together. The Starlifter is big enough against the A4 cutting mat. Probably around a similar size to a 1/72 C-47 or 1/48 Skyraider. When will there be more posts? Hi, I'm glad you are finding the build interesting. Things are temporarily on hold at the moment. I recently moved house last month followed by our second child being born nearly 3 weeks ago. The area where I will be modelling is currently full of boxes along with all my modelling stuff. Luckily our newest family member is allowing me to make massive strides forward in setting up the house. I'm hoping to have a clear area and bench set up in the next month or so. I can't wait to get back to the hobby.
