Lovely start to the build and the Deck green is spot on.

I served on Leanders and Phoebe's was 7th FS home port was Plymouth, I see you are building her pre 1974 before she was converted to Exocet/Sea Cat, the later to TA. Hope this may help, her flight deck letters were PB, PN was Penelope.Phoebes Westland Wasp was Gloss Blue in the early 70's. The budgies were not painted grey until the 80's.

Chewitt I feel a right pedantic git typing that, but as you have started so well it would be nice to carry her on and get her right.

Seeing this kit makes me want to go and get one and do Diomede, Cleopatra, Charybdis, Sirius or Minerva. Served on all of them before I changed cap badge.

This is how I remember her in the 80's on frigate alley in Guzz.

Thanks for spotting the mistake on the flight deck, already fixed,as with the Wasp, having painted it once, another layer of paint might be too much, will look at that later in the build.Busy on the forward mast.

Great progress so far, I would love to do a Minerva as my dad was on her in the 70's, but alas the cost is beyond my current budget. Will be following along intently.

I took this from Wiki, because I have notice the BBC, when using these ships, have not try to hid,the differences between all the ships, when using then, which only we would notice, only the pennant number and flight deck were change if required, unless someone know's better.

The series enjoyed close collaboration between the Royal Navy and the BBC, and—unusually for a TV drama of the 1970s—looked like a documentary. Seven Leander-class frigates played the role of HMS Hero and for continuity, all were repainted with the pennant number F42 of HMS Phoebe, the main warship used for filming. The others were HMS Danae, HMS Dido, HMS Diomede,HMS Hermione, HMS Juno and HMS Jupiter.

HMAS Derwent, a River-class destroyer escort of the Royal Australian Navy, was also used as Hero for some scenes filmed in 1976 in Hong Kong and Singapore.

These measures, along with the use by all the frigates of the pennant number F42, had the unintended side effect of confusing Soviet spy ships.

Chewitt she is looking good, the HMS Leander is spot on love that. Got a 4 ship (I think gift set somewhere in the stash. Must have had it for about 10 years I reckon. My first pussers war canoe was the D19 HMS Glamorgan. I am asking the "Boss" for the AM kit of her. Spoken to the man at AM and he said he can do all the bits and bobs to do her as she was on her final commission. No Sea Cat, 40/60 Bofors instead and the twin 20mm's on the half deck on the Port and Stbd waists.

I was the Stbd 20mm aimer on the Half Deck for my off watch action station. Our mounting was WW2 vintage the pattern date on the mounting was 1943 and the Oerlikons were 1944. If I had been into it all as much as I am now I should have or could have looked up their batch numbers to see what craft they were originally mounted on.

Keep going on Phoebes, she is stunning!

Just looking at the LEANDER, Chewitt I doff my lid to you sir, the main roof and aerials are absolutely perfect. I used to make them up on-board ship, Rigging the bloody things was a real pain in mid winter and then getting up the mast to hoist them and set to work. Copper wire and freezing fingers are not a good combination.

Enjoying this one, Chris; my first ship was Dido, and I have Peter / Atlantic's Ikara Leander ("Cleopatra") in the stash, so I am watching with keen interest.

My first ship was Penelope, RO's mess in 3MS & then after the long refit in '86 it was 3L. My mate was an RO on Phoebe, I've been drunk on her a couple of times!

Oh yes, your build looks great!

Another nice build as we have all come to expect. :goodjob:

and it is nice to see my first ship in her original guise. Seeing your model is very much tempting me to have a go at building a Leander at 1:350 scale after my attempt at 1:600.

Sorry I haven't made any comments/compliments for a while Chris. I really love this ship and what you have done with this kit, so glad you're doing 350 these days. How about Tamiyas big E Enterprise, I can imagine what you would do with that one!

That Tribal will be amazing, last of the "real" ships. Two funnels (due to the COSAG system). Also open backed turrets that came from the scrapped C class. Shame of it was the 4.5's only had 50 degrees elevation so a bit pants during an ADEX. My oppo was on the Gurkha. I did work up with the ex Tartar in 86 when the Indonesians who purchased Zulu, Gurkha and Tartar did their mini BOST at Portland.
