richellis
I managed to bag some rare AEC MkV resin cabs in 1:24, wanting to do a different build I spotted this off a Flickr contact, https://flic.kr/p/5PLS56 A bit of history, the chassis is a MM6 (Mammoth Major 6) and was used on various motorway and this was probably taken during the M25 construction. There was a fleet of these AECs in use and a lot had different cabs at points so its likely the cab came off an RAF Blue Steel carrier (like the one at Hendon) and I could do with pics of the cab! One of the cabs was a slight second, and had parts missing so this became the donor, it will be a long slow build as it is only a cab shell casting so need to scratch build a chassis, engine, suspension, axles, tipper body, etc etc! anyway, the cab as it arrived, WP_20160717_12_49_01_Pro by richellis1978, on Flickr marked out WP_20160721_16_08_20_Pro by richellis1978, on Flickr and now its too late, cant stick it on ebay to make a few quid! WP_20160721_16_24_30_Pro by richellis1978, on Flickr Next up is to sort the open bits of the cab, and make up a floor, a donor Italeri kit will donate the rear double drive (altered to suit the AEC set up) and KFS will supply the chassis and front axle and springs with a spare 6 cylinder engine from the spares box.

richellis
Well, its been a bit since an update but Ive been moving it on, I got some pics from a BM'er Dazzio from Hendon so got the main cab work sorted, WP_20160807_14_51_34_Pro by richellis1978, on Flickr WP_20160807_14_51_29_Pro by richellis1978, on Flickr Ive also scratch built a cab interior, using the floor and dash as a base to copy in plastic WP_20160807_14_51_42_Pro by richellis1978, on Flickr Need to get some milliput ordered to fill and shape the dash and the back of the dial pod, and tidy it a bit. Ive also got a chassis started, struggling for a spec sheet on the MM6 for the wheelbase, but a side on shot will help get it 'about' right, I hope! Its a KFS CNC cut generic chassis just need to sort a double drive rear end so I can shift it on a bit! perdu
Good looking start here rich, do you want any more pictures of the cab in Hendon? I was able to get to the driver's side yesterday and took several of the back of the cab and the chassis under the radiator area here's a taster The reason I took so many was a decision to have a go at one of these in 1/72 scale I made many years ago and a thought that I'd best get on with it while I'm still here If you like I'll delete them or we can ask Mike to clear the decks so to speak I've one of the off-side under neath the cab but it's a bit blurry, sorry to say it didnt occur to get inside the cab whilst I had the co-operation of the museum guys which was how I was able to get between the Mandator and the dear old Annie Anson Hope these help you b
perdu
Oh heck, here's the blurry one, you can see what it is after all (I am no great shakes with my camera even after having been bought a photography one-day course) Edited August 10, 2016 by perdu

richellis
Done a bit more, front axle and suspension in place, and made a start on the rear double drive, using a MAN set up off an Italeri kit, the hangers have been cut off the kit chassis, and added to the AEC, not sure on what I will do about the axles yet, don't really want to use the kit parts as they are wrong. The cab mounts are done, mainly, not accurate but as these trucks where re-cabbed a lot during there lives on the motorway construction! richellis
Next update, I need to order some stuff from KFS, so may be a break after this update for a bit until funds allow an order! Anyway, Ive taken the front axle out as its too wide, Ill order a narrower axle on the KFS order. A few details added to the chassis, fuel tank, and a hydraulic oil tank. Ive an engine also, that Ive chopped down to fit. It wont be a detailed model engine, just a gap filler. richellis
moving forward with this, I now have some period wheels, and hubs and the correct narrow front axle, Chassis is progressing as well. On temporary wheels for the pics, and Ive sprayed the cab in primer. There is also an engine in there too WP_20161019_16_33_40_Pro by richellis1978, on Flickr

richellis
Done a bit today, added some plumbing to the chassis, brass hard fuel lines ando some hydraulic hoses for the tipper rams, back axles done with the worm drive as per the real MM6 and following the how to on here I've cut away sections of the cab, and replaced with thick foil off a baking tray so it can be battered as per the real truck! The bumper is also foil so it can be damaged too
