what scifi stuff has the postman delivered to you today?

Recommended Posts

Paul did not state Green Strawberry copied everything from him- he just knew some of his Trek stuff was copied directly to the point of details he made up when there were no screen accurate references and the way some parts were nested into others.

It could be that several years ago when this was a hot topic (which I missed) GS did take some shortcuts like that- the people who did it may not even work for that company anymore.

It just gives me a bad feeling when a company gets into the area of recasting- I have had my own stuff stolen a couple of times and so things like this bother me some.

Still, GS did some great work on the set I bought and it was delivered pretty fast considering I am in the middle of nowhere Alabama and they are in the Czech Republic

This morning a box arrived that's heading straight for the loft.

Since getting back into modelling I have made the decision that I want to build science fiction models & have already got a collection of the cheaper star wars kits to get back upto speed.

Also picked up a couple of Revell Star trek kits that I have plans for (lighting etc) but talking to my wife the other day about my favourite spaceship of all time and the Space 1999 eagle has to be it.

Needless to say I want to build one of the large eagle kits at some point so it was decided that my xmas gift this year is going to be a space 1999 eagle & while there are still a few about it would make sense to buy the kit now rather than wait till there are only a few about and the prices have gone silly.

I had to have a look in the box when it arrived and unlike so many other kits where the boxes are quite empty I was shocked to see the box is full & I am both excited and quite nervous about starting the build (which wont take place till at least xmas) but at least that lets me get used to kit building again.

Its like being a young child again & cant wait. :frantic:

There is a LOT of plastic in that kit! I'm partway through building my second one... You will enjoy it when you get round to building it, and enjoy it even more once it is complete. Of course you must not make the whooshing noises whenever you lift it off the shelf.. .that would be just silly....

(whoosh)

Apparently it broke on Starship Modeler several years ago when Green Strawberry was first getting started. I visit that forum daily but missed that story for some reason. I don't recall anything about GS until about three months ago and they looked pretty good for the price so I placed an order.

In a discussion on Hobbytalk last month about photoetch parts for the Revell NuEnterprise kit the whole GS thing came up again. I had already gotten my parts by then and really hated to hear about what they had done with ParaGraphix's designs. I asked for some more details and got enough to satisfy me- Paul didn't want to get into what he considered old news but he ahs a solid reputation and would not make any comment unless he was 100% certain.

Here is the HT Thread:

http://www.hobbytalk.com/bbs1/99-science-fiction-modeling/533546-has-anyone-found-simple-pre-made-solution-jjprise-bussard-blades.html

SSM purges their older threads so there is no reference to the original discussion.

Ok, I’m struggling with this. I’ve looked at both sets for the JJ Prise, I can see ‘similarities’, both in the choice of the parts and in some general shapes but that’s about it. I can see no direct copy of the fret, no like for like. The differences, especially in detail, may be subtle in places but they are still different. So is it rather an issue of the ‘idea’ being copied, the choice of parts to develop and the general approach, rather than exact like for like? I’m really keen to understand.

For clarity I would suggest you contact Paul at ParaGrafix directly.

What I know about it is in the link I posted upthread, I do not have any interest in the NuE kit so I never explored the photoetch options. I do know Paul is an individual who would not make this sort of assertion lightly. Unfortunately due to the way SSM discards old/inactive threads there is now way to go back a couple of years and read the original discussion he was referring to.

Before I buy anything else I will take a closer look at the item, comparing it myself to other offerings. I am not the one making the accusation about recasting, I am just mentioning that GS was accused of it and that is something I do not take lightly.

Postie dropped off a LARGE, Hasbro Black Series First Order Special Forces TIE Fighter today and when I say LARGE the solar panels are 25" high.

Now I need to sort out a screwdriver to take it all apart and think about how to light it!

That sounds awesome! Are the wings sraight on it? I do remember someone buying a huge TIE, cant remember the make, only to find out the wings were a bit bent, iirc they rebuilt it.

Post pics when you light it, id love to see it :thumbsup2:

Had a quick look last night and the wings look fine, will post a pic up over the weekend, might have to think of a different size comparison than a Tamiya paint pot, too small!!

Got the camera out and took a few shots of the Black Series First Order Special Forces twin seat TIE Fighter.

First the box.

The round body, with me holding it!

The weathering is not bad for a toy!

The interior.

Wings attached and next to a radiator for size comparison.

Now got it all stripped down to see what I can do with it.

Cheers,

Warren

I got a very small package- the 1:1000 Botany Bay from the two kit special edition. A friend online (larskseme on Hobby Talk) sent it to me free of charge- his only request is to show the weathering technique on it as I build it.

This will be my first documented build since my very first scratch build in the mid seventies. The kit itself is pretty simple and rather plain, I am going to enhance surface details somewhat with micro chips of styrene and rod I think. The kit is molded in a weird burnt orange-rust color. according to the instructions is is supposed to be a base color but every image I have seen of that ship shows in it in grays. One great thing is that all the added detail will show clearly when I photograph it.

That Tie is pretty sweet. I've been meaning to pick up the Black Edition Kylo Ren Helmet for a while now.

I've recently received a couple more robits to sit on the shelf and not get built:

This is my first Bhiner order, the Side3 resin kit is very nice and a Daban Jesta was ordered as it was £8.50 and it will be used for parts only, but i will build it just to see what its like. The 1/100 amo look very nice as well.

should be noted, dont ever buy brushes from bhiner, they get ruined!
