fewr9fkr9595
Done some improvements to the finished builds. Easier than starting a new one. Also can’t decide what to do with the stripped ex vf32 CAG jet either... These new mods because found more info or better parts now available or I just monged it to begin with. First up - the VF-31 bird. Sorted out - camo demarcation on spine. Done it sloping the wrong way! Red line is how it should be. Corrected. Then blended, panel lines redone and flat coated. Next was the ventral fins. I painted them back then but was a poor match and bugging me. My mix was too dark. Decals are quite orangish. So i sanded them down a bit and used spare tail decal from another D kit so they would now be the same Vf-31’s were added and then flatted down. Next I added a Lantirn pod, detailed with some of my home printed decals. Paint a sliver rectangle, add the decal hatch lines over then you have a mesh vent! Other bits being done - sorting out nose probe join, Replacing wheels for attack sqn resin, adding rbf tags to u/c legs, seats raised up in pit, chinpod to be replaced with crisper item mastered from hasegawa one etc etc... Will take new photos of it and update its RFI once completed the pimping of a few other finished builds too. Thanks for looking. 7

fewr9fkr9595
Some other bits & easy wins getting done while on leave - Improving exhausts of the vf31. This area was all stock less for the decals I added to the overlap/rub areas on the ge nozzles. The AB faces that hboss provide only resemble p&w engines if anything and are pretty poor with the smooth tubes. So this has now had some hasegawa AB faces and seamless ridged tubes I mastered. Also added some detail decals to insides and then grimed them up. Another thing for this and some others is spare circuit breaker panels to go on the rear cockpit wall either side of RIO’s seat. Next victim of improvements- something added was a splash of colour missing from the all drab vf-111 low vis bird. Missing from the fcm sheet if I remember correctly. These turned up from italy courtesy of @Giorgio N and his spare hasegawa pacific boxing decal sheet - the sundowners patch this scheme wore either side of ‘pit. In place and flatted down - Need some pigments over to grime them up & tone them down a touch still... Next one: Another thing bugging me was the too tall fin caps of the vf-21 CO jet. I copied these as per the hasegawa instructions in their independence boxing where these decals came from. Seems they got their pics and references mixed up but the jet may have existed like this? The picture I found showed only the very tips painted when the smaller panther was rendered inside the wedge. Large tail caps went with the larger panthers that went outside of the wedges. Also the skunk and caps on this should be more of an engine grey than gunship grey but can’t do much about that though in terms of darkening it because of crew names on sills... Bits to keep masked off - Then sprayed over keeping with the darker/patchy & still slightly visible look to make it seem the caps had been reduced/painted over mid cruise as per reference pic... Thats all for now and my ocd-ness 🙃

Hello mate how’s things? yes back for a short time as will be away again soon. As for those wheels - don’t you mean 1/32? Unless that guy has very small hands. Don’t see the point in real rubber tires in any scale sorry.

Please, keep it going, we have been missing you... Don’t apologise mate, each to his own. I just don’t see the point in squidgy rubber tires on a static display model. Plus rubber doesn’t take paint too well if you want to detail/weather them, especially in the larger scales. Reminds me of when I was selling a finished hasegawa 1/32 Bf109 G6 on ebay. Some bloke messaged to ask if the wheels rotated and the prop spun. Took a lot of offence when I asked if it was because he wanted to roll it along his kitchen worktop/table and make it ‘take off’ For me there is a very clear line between a toy and a static display model, which is basically a piece of 3D art to be looked at. I’m not one for pressing down on a planes spine and watching the tires squirm. Anyway rant over, digressing down the rabbit hole and other needs must. fewr9fkr9595
Easily distracted. Started another egg cat as the first was quite fun. This will be a tps low viz line jolly roger to go with the high viz Cag. Note to self still need to RFI that. For this one will have to make the line decals up from spare 1/144 stuff. Also an excuse to try out the AK real colours too. Metallics and details will be ak xtreme and their bottle acrylics.
fewr9fkr9595
After a long sabbatical due to being away with work, the second eggcat continues. Metals - ak extreme to go with the real color. Dark alu outlined with burnt metal on the cowls and then jet exhaust shaded with purple on the nozzles. Black stynylrez and then light ghost starting to go on -

fewr9fkr9595
Good day chaps. Over the next week I will put up some pics of the various other improvements & corrections done to the completed jets. All are due to be re-photographed and their respective RFI’s updated over xmas leave. Not had time to catalogue whats been done till now as been busy with work and life etc. Probably why I’ve just done these few jobs on them rather than commit to another new build... So these reworks are getting progressively more involved. The first couple on the sundowner and freelancer a few posts back was just adding a decal here or reducing fin cap paint there etc. Then the Tomcatter had more by its nose pitot fixed, paint work to adjust the camo demarcation and also had ventral fins colour matched by spare decals and new exhaust interiors. Seats were raised too. The next three are more involved, starting with the Grim Reaper. The Black lion jet will have its mods shown over the next few days, and then an update on the swordsmen CAG which I went full retard on and gave an ipa bath to. That is going to have a full rebuild and repaint back to its former (but hopefully now accurate) glory courtesy of the new furball 1/72 colours and markings sheet... Thats the build to commence in the new year. The Reaper: First job was to improve that horrible nose pitot join that hobbyboss does. Kept it stock on my first few builds. Presumably to make it easier to build by having a larger part. This required filling, sanding, repainting and a new decal too . Original paints and colours used as per the initial build. Blending join. Stynylrez Ghost grey done, now skunk masked off. Touched in. new decal on. This was then flat coated and weathered. New pitot then added. Also done were some nose gear bay details (not shown), resin main wheels and one of my ‘empty’ Lau-7 casts. Next was improving the exhaust area. The cowls were originally done in Ak extreme metallic ‘gunmetal’ which was too light a shade for carbon really. (Whole jet was done in ak stuff, AK air/meng for the main acrylics and extreme for all metals) So I redid them in the darker ak ‘jet exhaust’ that I had acquired since this was completed. I have also used some better tubes and afterburner faces that I mastered for my finemolds cat project. The various parts - Added a lip to the end of the tubes and recast them to help them centre and ‘fill out’ inside the hboss cowls. AB faces then click onto the back. The nozzles are still the same as per the original build, just weathered more and some homemade rib decals inside. (Nozzles are from tamiya’s F16C Block 50 kit) Like so... PS the edges of AB parts needed shaving down to fit inside fuselage so need to rework and recast them for Hboss applications. View down the pipes. Much better GE representation. Thats about it for now & thanks for sticking around. Tony
fewr9fkr9595
Here is the tps eggcat wearing it’s camo - Ak real color. Had some problems getting the paint to behave with the dedicated thinners. Once I tried again with cellulose thinners it was much better and like spraying MRP or Mr Color.
fewr9fkr9595
More progress with the eggcat - Detail painting done. Glossed. Decals on. So this kit only comes with two high viz options, so before I had committed to the tps job I had made sure I would be able to pull this off from the spares box. Thought I would initially be able to get them in dark grey as seen on TPS JR cats but had to go with black to match the tail art. Which came from a chinese ‘bestfong’ 1/144 f-18 hornet sheet, bought specifically for this project as 1/144 tomcat decals are even scarcer than 1/72 ones. How this was done - The vertical tailcode AG from hornet sheet was separated and then the G cut and inverted to make a J. The nose band is from a 1/72 CAG vf84 dull gull F14 microscale sheet. The stars and bars & wing 202 are from the FCM 1/144 vf33 tomcat sheet. Tail top 02 is trimmed from a 1/72 BuNo Intake chevrons are cut 1/72 Nose 202 is stock from the eggcat. USS Nimitz is 1/72 vf41 shootdown scheme. Navy is 1/72 grim reaper sheet. Walkways again just trimmed 1/72. Just needs some turbine stripe on the nacelles. May move the ‘navy’ forward though. One all on and sealed the filters & weathering will lighten the markings up to match the tailcaps hopefully.
fewr9fkr9595
Now the fun begins- Gave it the maskol postshade treatment to get that patch paint effect. Not many panel lines to use so had to be creative and suggest them. Just used the same dark grey as the fincaps. Maskol removed. Looks a bit over egg-sajerated 😂 But then toned it down working with the three tps colours to soften the egdes and fade the black markings towards 36081 or so. Then it has a panel line wash added, this was worked to give some general grime and streaking too. Still needed to be cleaned up and blended this side. This side about done... Quite enjoying this as don’t have to take it too seriously...
fewr9fkr9595
So it was flat coated but then the exhaust fairings looked a bit meh because of all the grey overspray on them too. This was during all the postshading. So they were masked off and sprayed again. All bits coming together for final assembly. Canopy was prized off then the cockpit detail painted inside and the decals added too. Need to finish off a few more bit on it then it will be RFI times with the gull over white CAG one... Thanks for looking.
fewr9fkr9595
Some weathering and final pics before RFI... Oilbrushers were used, white and grey for fading and highlights, Starship filth for streaks and dirt. Gunmetal for some exhaust variation. White rings are where white was used for some highlights. Black rings show gunmetal. General views Wing sweeps grimed up - Cockpit close ups before canopy goes on. Pull handles & belts are 1/72 etch. All together now with a guest background appearance of the Vf-31 sunset jet from the Finemolds thread - Will photograph this properly in a pair with the gull cag eggcat and RFI them next week. Thanks for looking.
