Ouchhhh in three-dimensions. You will get this sorted and sleeping on it will probably be the best thing to do and come back to it fresh.

Feel your pain fella.

Hi Fella

All looking rather nice now, shame about the windscreen though although I am confident that you will be able to sort out and your extra work will pay many dividends when this bird is complete, talking of birds good to see that your chicken is better. The Lanc will look great I am sure and I too cannot wait to see this, I will show my lad to see if it will inspire him !!!

Keep up the great work

All the best

Chris

Thanks very much. :) I'm not surprised by the canopy to be fair, I'll just sort it out, that's what this build is all about after all. :) hopefully you can get yer boy to do a build. I'll post more on the lanc when progress occurs. May I suggest a smaller build for your boy. ;)

Jont.

When you say it fit before you painted... do you mean with the cockpit in place?

What's changed since the dry fit that worked?

Or am I completely misinterpreting your comment.

On a positive note - I'm completely in awe of that cockpit.

Sorry I'm not explaining it very well am I. :) basically when I was dry fitting the pit must have been wiggling around a bit as I didn't glue it. I checked the top and I'm sure the bottom fitted but it was a squeeze. Now it's glued there is no Jimmy room so the gap is, let's say a little less yielding. The gap though will touch I just need to glue and clamp and add that key bit. It'll be fine. Lalalalal. :mental:

I have no real idea, but it seems to be that the cockpit is to wide. So if it's possible I would thin the sidewalls again, grit the cockpit narrow as you can. Perhaps you have also to split the canopy, but the strip would be smaller to fix and the gap on the bottom also. You have put a smaller strip of plastic to the bottom and the front wheel bay is not that wide. So it would be all in all in dimensions. But not sure, if this works. Cheers

Thanks for the idea but that fuselage is almost shut and step five is just around the corner, it's like standing with my back against a door full of bulging monsters. The sanding idea would work but I can't bring myself to open it all up again. I'd have to do the fuselage wall rather than the pit however as that is sanded within an inch of its life already. The key part is the key. I think. :) trust me I'm a doctor. ;)

I've actually embraced this for what it is and am expecting nothing to fit. NOTHING! :) so when it does it's a pleasant surprise. I'm using loads of tools I've never used before too. It's actually quite nice. :mental:

The canopy mystery is solved! Glad I didn't cut it. The top curve doesn't fit the fuselage curve. Looking back at my old posts, see how BM helps the weary modeller :). Post three I think, just before I cut off the front part, "canvas front on the pit", you can see how deep the canopy shelf is to accommodate the clear part. I can make a little plasticard shelf to fit. Yay. :):goodjob:

Sorry thought you might like to know. ;)

Thanks guys, I'm glad you're finding the build fun I know I am. :) . A small amount of bench time today saw work on the "Gap"

First up the "Key" section got re-scribed and added into place, I super glued the internal struts and popped it in before the squeeze of a million bands takes place. Here is step one.

6FE0B395-E225-4CAD-B3E5-E07A2E704A45_zpsklhga5p2

After that more tamiya extra thin and super glue was added to the seams and the nose section got the squeeze treatment, breath in.

The mummy get swrapped. :) Each band that went on I added a little more tamiya extra thin to bond that plastic together. And eventually the gap closed and the beast was quelled. :)

The only gap is in the wheel well that can have a shim fitted and covered with gubbins. ( technical term ) I have just noticed that the front well looks a little shallow but I'll think about that later.

Spinning it over the welded top half has stayed in place. I have added a few little bonding strips and gap fillers.

I'll remove the wraps tomorrow and see if it explodes like Monica's closet. I'll keep you posted. Fingers crossed We might just be visiting the lofty heights of step five.

Serious strain there :)

That 'pit looks amazing.

Here's to praying that The Mummy doesn't become Revenge of the Mummy followed by Return of the Mummy

Persistence, determination and a nice big dollop of brute force just to show it who's boss :D

Top quality entertainment John

This is quite a roller coaster ride John :o! Gaps, clamping, more gaps, more clamping, clear bits that fit, then don't, then do again, bands.....

Well, the important thing is it's all going well

Great save with the Grand Canyon.

Holding my breath for when the wrapping is off the Mummy.

PS thanks for the well wishes; slow steady progress :)

Best regards

And bottom.

It ain't pretty but it's holding, which I'm taking and running with. :hobbyhorse::)

I don't know if it's the same with you guys but doing a build like this makes you not want to cut corners. I'm not for a minute saying this is anywhere near the quality of some of the mind blowing work going on in BM but I just want to do what I can within my ever increasing skill set to make this old bird a better model. Which brings me to the front wheel well. Well indeed, it's a bit shallow ain't it, I had decided to add detail here but there wasn't really a well to add detail to. Half of me wanted to just paint it black and add a few bumps here and there but that just wouldn't be right would it. After goading Tony "The Baron" about doing his intakes I couldn't skimp on this so out with "Dexter"

4CCEAF59-A531-4D0A-8967-B07C44B0738B_zpssa1b21cb

And after a while we have a hole.

7354FB26-CA9B-49C2-AADA-13F3A55345DC_zpsugrrwia4

As you can see I think the reason it was shallow was due to the intakes blocking the space to add a well. so I had to sand em flat.

The top inner frame got stuck down and a bit of light sanding took place.

C16EC779-7790-44A7-A0EF-327C65F9D22E_zpsusfhbygm

Now here's another reason why BM is useful, while posting I thought the hole for the well looked a little short, so back upstairs for another attack with Dexter.

72025CF4-6489-424C-87A9-A606BCD4CCF5_zpsjtg2lfwp

Much better. :) all I have to do now is scratch a box to fit in the hole. Should be fun. ;)

Ooh before I wrap up for the night I also made a little shim to try and fit the front canopy.

Looks like it might be a winner. I'm absolutely pooped now so I'm off to me bed. Thank you all once again for taking time out to poke your head in and see what I'm up to. Take care and here's a little teaser before I go.

Dry fit and hardly any gap, what's THAT all about?

Night night guys.

Well done John ! I honestly thought it was all going to ping open :o!

I like it when Dexter comes out. So irrationally and hideously vast and dangerous. Splendid :D

Looks like you had a nice brew on the shelf..

Looking good for imminent wing attachment :thumbsup2:

Best regards

Yeehaa! :cowboy: You done good! I know exactly what you mean about only realizing how something looks when you see your photo of it posted - a bit like the old painter's trick of looking at the canvas in a mirror, I guess. Had to shudder at seeing your nose well activity today , I have not had a good day with mine, so can only wish you swift joy with yours sir. :thumbsup2::thumbsup2::thumbsup2:

Great stuff!

BTW: Is 'Dexter' a Tamiya saw by any chance? I ordered something like it last night, though mine doesn't look to be as big.
