Jessica
If you have an airbrush, you can get very good metallic effects using Alclad lacquers. You need very good ventilation, because the fumes are very strong and can be toxic in high concentration. I've never used them, but Vallejo metallic colours are spoken highly of in this forum. They're water based, so you avoid the fumes issue. I can't talk about the American fuselage colours because I loathe that new scheme so I haven't paid attention to how to recreate it. Someone else is bound to come by and tell you about it though
DrewP
I feel the same about the new American, Jessica. I read a build of someone doing a delta DC-8-71 (Minicraft) and he used different colored bases before adding the alclad, like blue and grey instead of black, and it gave them slightly different colors. I would suggest maybe doing a blue base because to me it has a tint of light blue. Also look for some of the less chrome-y alclads. Testing out their paints and trial and error are sometimes the best ways to get the colors you want. On the other hand, some might say it looks like a flat light grey (I personally don't see that, it definitely looks like some sort of aluminum paint). PAS Decals has some decal sets for the 777 on eBay, they're worth taking a look at if you haven't bought a decal set already. The instructions might also give you correct colors and brand names to use. All the best, Drew Edited July 14, 2016 by DrewP
Hati Fukui
Thank you Jessica, i will try to find this paint. About the american colors, Drew, i bought the decals from PAS on e-bay, and he didnt give the colors, i think thats the bigger mistake from decals makers. But anyway, thank you. Jessica
Producers like PAS assume that you're already an expert and know what colours to get. Here's how they do the 1:1 scheme: It's a light grey base with mica fleck overcoat. There are some mica model paints available, and I can also suggest that you look for clear mica style fingernail polish. It sprays well when it's thinned with lacquer thinner.
