This time I try to build The V18 with the exhaustdriven turbosupercharger.To make things a little easier this time I use the complete Newtool Dora kit from Revell.The original V18 U1/2 at last (after an accident) ended as one of the prototypes for the TA 152H. You see a very convertible plane. In a Model art publication I found these pics: First I cut off the enlogating part of the large Dora tail and cemented it to the fuselge. The turbocharger adapter on the right side had to go too.(The V18 got a Daimler engine). The Dora cowl cover over the machine guns was replaced by the old A6/8 part. With a little modification it fitted satisfactorily. Much easier than converting the Dora part. . two bumps on the new cowling and anew one onthe right side for the inlet manifold of the DB 603. Doghound Posted July 8, 2016 Author Share Posted July 8, 2016 cockpit and engine are in place. The oilcooler is finished. Only some fine sanding will be needed. The coolingflaps of the cooler are from a beer can. We have a nice hobby!The next step will be the wings because the supercharger and its piping can only be fitted when the wings are in place. I ran out of quarterscale P47 cowls so I had to look for ozher spareparts to build the oilcooler. There was an old Ju 88 fromLindberg, no one wants to build even when forced by a gun! Doghound Posted July 10, 2016 Author Share Posted July 10, 2016 (edited) With a coat of primer. The lower wing is fitted with some updating of the wingroots. The heat shields for the exaust tubes are fitted to the sides. The front of the Supercharger-cooler is cemented in place already and I try now to build a supercharger hausing from an old Airfix "Black Widow" some sheet and plumper piping. Doghound Posted July 21, 2016 Author Share Posted July 21, 2016 I had a real fight with the exhausts. Wife daughter and dog took cover and my Beer suplies ran out. In earnest I had missed to look for solutions in advance. At last I got them done as best I can and hope this was the last great barrier in building the V-18. By the side the V-18 U2 had an accident late in 1944 and was reconstructed as one of the TA 152 H prototypes with wooden tail. The props were made from three Spitfire blades and one from a 109 (old Revell and Hasegawa stuff).I cemented plastic card on the backside of each prop and cut out the correct outline. the rest is 2K putty and alot of sanding. Doghound Posted August 15, 2016 Author Share Posted August 15, 2016 Now the camouflage came in mostly RLM 02. The large bare metal part beneath the cockpit is questionably. Will remedy this later. The V18 was a relatively long living prototype which went from the U1 to the U2 version. Don't know the difference between the two.
