eng
Afternoon all, As per the title, what's the best kit in 1/72 as a starting point for a RAF HC.4? I received the new Xtradecal sheet yesterday, primarily for the Tornado's but I may be tempted to build Nellie as well! Rgds, Eng
Gary West
Ive only ever built the Airfix's HC1 so I can comment on other brands, but the Airfix kit seemed quite good - The HC4s are basically upgraded HC2's and externally the main visual differences are the lack of the "TV earials" on the nose and the addition of nose mounted FLIR - the other non visible improvements were avionics & Engines. Jabba
As Gary said the HC4 is an updated HC2. They are also fitted with the uprated engines that have the slightly pointing outward from the fuselage exhausts. I think that these were also fitted to some of the HC2 if not all, but are fitted to all HC4s. Edited June 24, 2016 by Jabba
Dave Fleming
Hmmm, Interesting question - the Airfix kit was originally planned as an HC2 until they realised the Italeri plastic was different from the HC2 configuration. Externally, the most noticable difference is the CH-47D style rear rotor pylon front. There are a lot of antennae and smaller differences (CMK do a Chinook update set which has many of the ECM gear for an RAF Chinook). the engine nozzles differ too. This list is for the Trumpeter kit, but much of it is similar http://www.ipms-farnborough.co.uk/index.php?id=chinook_improvements Edited June 24, 2016 by Dave Fleming
