Lister 'Knobbly' Jaguar 1/8 scratch

Recommended Posts

Thanks you guys.

It's actually epoxy I use.

I haven't gone down the road to the black art of soldering yet...

I'm lucky to have some superb reference photo's as well as plans so getting the bits (hopefully) in the right places isn't too much bother.

It also helps to have excellent contacts at Lister..... (Ahem - Gazza and the company bosses)

Many thanks guys.

I've pretty much sorted the main chassis frame although there should be a light curved frame at the back for body support and fuel tank fixing.

I'll add those when the body is finally attached.

The chassis now needs painting gloss grey as per the real ones.

I've cast a diff and checked it all fits and lines up ok.

I might build up the rear suspension etc before fitting the frame into the floor and body.

The body needs painting soon, before fixing the chassis in.

A little more done on the back.

However - I started measuring to make the DeDion tube and found it wasn't right.

Further measuring showed I had somehow made the back 5mm too long.

No amount of fiddling would sort it so in the end there was only one solution.

Chop the back off and shorten the side tubes that were too long.

Fixed back together with strengthening rods inside the tubes, and now the diff is in the right place so the DeDion tube ought to fit.

Chassis is now also gloss grey.

The chassis isn't sitting in the correct place on the drawing btw...

Another little bit...

I made a front suspension wishbone by scaling a good vertical angle photo of the real thing, printing it out to size and then gluing the picture to 60 thou plastic.

This was cut out and the side 'arms' made from 80 thou. Bracing was added with thin strip.

Once made it was moulded in silicone rubber and the first casting has been made and roughly cleaned up.

It still needs neatening and cleaning up a lot more but now I know it works. I can now cast three more to make up the front suspension.

The upper and lower arms are the same.

Also cast the engine parts I'll need later on while I was at it.

Hi Roy,

Stunning casting work, I wouldn't no where to start!
Just one thing though, the upper wishbones are slightly different, they haven't got the three lightening/stiffening holes or a cross brace, they have one large hole for the

shock absorber to pass through and also a bracket for the anti-roll bar attachment... apart from this the overall dimensions I gave you are identical.

Sorry, gazza l

Hello Gazza...

Yes you are absolutely right!

Me not looking closely enough at my own photo's!

Easily remedied though...

I'll sort the upper ones tomorrow.

The resin casting malarkey isn't that difficult once you get into it.

It's quite good fun too...

Great to see such a wide variety of skills which you bring to the scratch-builders table. It all contributes to the 'real thing' look your cars all have.

You could make a (second) cottage industry out of making castings for big-scalers...:guitar:

Dunno why the software doubled my above post. Worse it won't let me edit it.

Can I have the old coal-burning forum please? This modern rocket ship has a mind of its own...

Very kind words from you Mr C.

I'm available to anyone who cares to ask, or help with a 'master' I f I don't have one.

And yes, 'new' isn't always 'better'.

The double postings drive me nuts too.

I've found if all of my text gets doubled - as with Sharknose above - Leave it a few mintutes, and then I can edit the post and delete the 'spare' text.

Hopefully it will get sorted though.

The drawings are genuine Lister plans.

I re-scaled them to 1/8 and then printed them.

I've checked my measurements against the real cars at the Lister factory and everything is ok.

It does help to have access to the real cars for which I'm really grateful.

The front suspension A arms are sorted and now fitted using a brass 'axle' through each one so that it pivots ok.

I've still got to add the small polished steel caps over the little axle stubs.

Again, chassis tested for fit etc on the floor plate.

Many thanks chaps.

I must admit this one is being great fun.

Having such excellent reference and factory help, It almost feels like making the real car in miniature.

I've added the caps to the ends of the A arm pivots - yet to paint them.

Also, two cross braces now made and fitted at the leading edge of the floor/sills.

Two more braces to make further back.

The chassis is now bonded to the floor plate.
