PhantomBigStu
Whats it like? Is it a good intermediate between a gloss Varnish like Revell Aqua Gloss, and a matt like Windsor and Newton Mat? Edited June 18, 2016 by PhantomBigStu
SaintsPhil
Never used it, but W&N satin is very good, along with their Matt, stick with what you know and all...
PhantomBigStu
Never used it, but W&N satin is very good, along with their Matt, stick with what you know and all... yeah just seen it only comes in a 28.4ml bottle, makes it at 114 pound a litre, vs 25 for windsor and newton, no contest anyway whats the finish with W&N satin like, wouldn't mind seeing the results Edited June 15, 2016 by PhantomBigStu
SaintsPhil
I'm not sure I have any build pictures that I can find easily, I would say it's closer to Matt than gloss, with a nice sheen to it. I'm sure another user will have some pics!
Greenshirt
I've used it for years, works okay but you have to really mix it good or it comes out glossy...and flattish as the bottle gets near empty. I just spilt my last bottle, so not much is left; I plan to switch to either W&N or Liquitex products due to price and availability. Tim
PhantomBigStu
As said earlier I've ruled out microscale due to cost edited the first post
Gary West
I use W&N now for all varnishes and regret not using them earlier. Once youve mastered the ratio to water you control the finish you get.
CedB
Hi Stu. I've not used the gloss (yet) although I have all three. My airbrushing skills are dubious but this stuff, thinned 50/50 with water from the condensing tumble dryer spayed at about 25psi through a 0.4mm nozzle, gives me a great finish (IMHO) and is very forgiving. Here's a couple of examples both 1/72: Matt (some think this is 'too matt' but I like it) ProCamera by Ced Bufton, on Flickr Satin: Untitled by Ced Bufton, on Flickr HTH
