Bandai X-Wing - Custom finish

The X-Wing's finally finished with today's last minute addition of all new mini Nigel, the mouse droid. Bandai's X-Wing is a great kit, easily as good as all their other releases. The custom finish was down to wanting to do something different to a red squadron fighter (ironic that I painted it red then). The open panels were also done to give it a bit of individuality.

The base was my first snow scene, and a bit of a learning curve, using different materials. If I'm honest neither the X-Wing or the base are my best work, and are a bit scruffy in places. I was quite pleased with the astromech though, which recreated U9-C4, the R5 droid I depicted with Bandai's 1/12 kit.

(wip here)

I'll post some shots of the X-Wing on it's own first, as it's easier to see the details when it's off the base

And all together on the base (if you get bored you can always play 'Where's Nigel')

another masterpiece to come off your bench Andy. Beautifully painted and weathered. It has everything except yellow snow. Some figures wouldn't go amiss here either, although the droid is fine

Lovely stuff. You've made the X-Wing interesting to me again!!

Yes, you're absolutely right MH, it's a bit lifeless without figures. I was going to use a couple from the Hasegawa set that the generator came from, but they were a little crude. When I find some suitable figures I'll add them

I was about to say that any ship worth it's weight and down for maintenance should have some sort of hose or cable plugged into it. But I see you have that covered! And happily you even weathered it! As an airport ramp rat, that makes me smile. Boy that blue and white checker pattern was just the right amount of pop this ol' dirty bird needed. After creeping all over your flickr page I really enjoyed the chance to see you work step by step.

Thanks for sharing Andy. She's a fine ship.

Thanks eveyone

Stunning as always. Do you mind if I ask how long you've been modeling/painting Andy?

Cheers,

Kev

Thanks Kev. Like a lot on here, I made models as a kid, in the '80's in my case, then slipped out of the hobby for a long time. In 2012 I decided on a whim to buy a kit for a bit of nostalgia, with no firm plans of taking it much further than that build. One build led to another, and I've never really stopped for the last four years.

Lovely job, it looks detailed and rich without being messy. I even like the lemon yellow bits and that's usually a colour that I love to hate.

Nice touch putting the orange 'droid on the complementary teal blue stripes too :)
