mossieramm
Hi there, I'm putting the finishing touches on my Airfix C-47 and have a decal question. According to the instructions decal 27 (a circle) should go on the fuselage windows. But what is it suppose to represent ??http://s1097.photobucket.com/user/ATFPictureGallery/media/Airfix%20Instructions/72nd%20Aircraft%20Instructions/Douglas%20C47%20Skytrain%20A08014/Scan_Doc0042.jpg.htmlThanks for any info. Ed Russell
Movable perspex discs in the windows enabling a rifle to be fired. Rather optimistic I think but I suppose it gave a psychological boost. https://www.awm.gov.au/collection/055402/ https://www.awm.gov.au/collection/016719/ https://www.awm.gov.au/collection/OG3819/ https://www.awm.gov.au/collection/UK3039/ Edit - your similar post on Hyperscale attracted a few answers, probably because it has been discussed there before. There is one guy there who thinks they were ventilation ports. I don't think so because (1) I have heard them described as gun ports by a Dakota pilot and (2) they never appear on civilian aircraft, only on military-intended examples or civilian aircraft converted for military use.
