Digger1895
I now use Tamiya or Mr Hobby acrylics only for painting. This leaves me with a few tins of Humbrol enamel paint, some unopened, just sitting there. I was just wondering if it's possible, or even worth it, to make some of the better colours into panel washes. Aren't washes just extremely thinned paints? If it is possible how would I go about it? Or is there some other way to put them to good use?
Rick Brown
Perfect use in my opinion! Just thin really, erm, thinly. Rick.
dubster72
As Rick said, thin them down well with white spirit & you're good to go. Do remember that enamels will dry quicker than oils, so mop up any excess before they dry.
Foghorn Leghorn
I was of the opinion that all these enamel based washes and filters were no more than thinned enamel paint so I tried it myself with limited success, I think it depends on the how fine the pigment is in the enamel paint. Digger1895
I was planning on using these enamels washes over the acrylic paint that has been sealed with Alclad Aqua, will this combination work?

I use Aquagloss and it works fine with oil or enamel washes using MIG thinners
SaintsPhil
Ditto aqua gloss is pretty much bulletproof as far as low odour thinners goes, steer clear of the cheap DIY white spirits though as it can be too hot!!
