Vintage Decals

Im currently trying to decal an Airfix kit from the early 70s and am having problems making the decals to conform to the panel lines.
Im using mr mark setter and softer, this is the best solution i have found and works very well with tamiya thick decals. But on these decals i am having a hard time to make them stick down and look "painted". i keep applying the softer and pressing down, it does stick into to the panel line but not completely.

And the most annoying bit is... the softer solution doesn't want to spread on top of the decal. it just runs off or beads up!

Any advice?

If the decals are that old that may be the problem. I use Micro Set and Sol on a glossy surface. Nine times out of ten that works for me but sometimes rogue decals even refuse to behave.

I decided to carry on with decalling...

Things have improved! After a few minutes of placing the decal on the mr mark setter, the decal wrinkles up, which is a good sign. As it dries It then starts to sink into the panel lines, but not totally.

I apply a few coats of Mr Mark softer but it always seems to run off or bead up! After an hr or so the decal sticks down nicely, but it doesn't sink into the panel lines totally.

In the end I am quite happy with these 70s decals... things could have been much worse!
