IL-2 Sturmovik ***Finished***

Recommended Posts

Thanks again chaps :)

Looking forward to seeing your take on the big Bronco BTW, another of my favourite aircraft (for no reason I can adequately explain). :coolio:

Yeah, me too!

Camo going on - did the brown first, then masked with blutac and cling film:

Green next:

Glad it went on well. Let that dry, then on with the grey!

Thanks very much for saying guys. It's turning out very well from my point of view.

Main colours finished. Bit annoyed that the blutac masking slipped between the tan and green paint going on. Very happy with the overall finish though.

All the other bits now painted and ready for final assembly!

Decals next....

Lovely work on that three way camo Alan. I've given up on the Blu Tak method myself and started using adhesive transparency material for camo masking - I find at 1/72 it's giving me sharper boundaries. This is great stuff here though :)

Are you planing on the final result being pristine, or have any 'wear and tear' visible?

Lovely job Alan

I am only slightly jealous of you and the Tamiya version of this aircraft : )

Thanks for the photos of the canopy masking, I'll need to pick your brains regarding weapons and pitot tube sizes as although they are referred to in my ZTS instruction, no parts are included and the rest is up to the builder !

Cheers Pat

Excellent job on the camouflage! The dark grey really brings it together.

Yum!

That's beautiful paintwork Alan :)

Nice job!

Lovely work on that three way camo Alan.

Lovely looking paint job!

The colours work really well together and look spot on.

Thank you all most kindly! I must admit I'm quite surprised how well it came out. I rarely build 1/72, and even more rarely a wavy camouflage scheme. So thanks very much for your appreciation :)

Sorry ;) but I got very lucky with the donation :)

The wing pitot and cannons are both approx 0.5mm diameter.

I'm only doing a panel line wash, otherwise it will be clean.

Thanks very much again for following the build and commenting :thumbsup2:

On with the build....

Decals on. Luckily not many to do, but have to be placed very carefully so they all match up.

Next on was the flat coat - I used Xtracrylix flat Varnish as you can vary the reflectiveness with water.

Bombs and rockets:

I enhanced the strip around the middle with Tamiya tape.

Cannon and I think the smaller one is machine guns?

tn_DSCN5272.jpg

I'm sure Jason can clarify? I knocked the little ones off during the build (they push through from inside the wing, so you have to fit them early in the build). I rep;aced them with fine enamelled wire.

Don't ask me how i managed to fit the machine gun without removing the canopy., I'm not sure how i did it. Maybe voodoo?

Lastly, antenna fitted - I used the same enamelled wire again.

Yes, a beautiful job! That is indeed a machine gun on the real article, a 7.62-mm ShKAS rapid-fire weapon (up to 1800 rpm). I expected to knock mine off during assembly, so I didn't fit them. Whenever I finally finish my build (it's built, I just need to finish painting it), I'll probably add some wire like you did to represent them.

Regards,

Jason
