canberraman Posted May 2, 2016 Share Posted May 2, 2016 Home to the Fighting Saints of VFC-13 flying the venerable ex Swiss AF F-5N Tiger, the Desert Outlaws of Strike Fighter Wing Pacific, and the Naval Strike Air Warfare Center, NAS Fallon serves as the US Navy’s premier tactical air warfare training center. Known throughout the US Navy as the only facility in existence where an entire carrier air wing can conduct comprehensive training while integrating every element of the wing into realistic battle scenarios. Fallon enjoys more than 300 clear flying days per year and gets the most out of each of those days with its four bombing ranges, the electronic warfare range and all of its other excellent training facilities. The 14,000-foot runway remains the longest in the Navy. I was lucky enough to visit the base in March this year and was blessed with seeing a number of the VFC-13 F-5s wearing a variety of aggressor camo schemes. Also flying that day were the F-16s and F/A-18s of the NSAWC/NAWDC, as well as F/A-18E/F Super Hornets and a couple of E-2D Hawkeyes from various US Navy sqns that were working up with the Aggressors before embarking on operational deployments aboard the USN Carriers of the Pacific Fleet. The US Navy NAWDC operate the F-16A/B in both blue and sand camo schemes which make a change from the more familiar grey. NAWDC also is one of the last units operating the legacy F/A-18C Hornet as typified by this example. This MH-60S is also on the strength of the based NAWDC This F/A-18F was one of a number of sqn aircraft deployed to Fallon for operational work up from VFA-211 and is marked with 18 mission mks. Also deployed to Fallon prior to service aboard the USS Theodore Roosevelt is this E-2D from VAW-125. Hope these are of interest, c&c always welcome.
