Squibby
After almost 2 months of building I've finally finished off my latest model. The Airfix new tool Hurricane mk 1 in AASF markings (kit supplied) VY-C based in France. I can't say this was some of my best work and the kit had a few issues that needed to be dealt with, notably all the filling and cleanup involved with mating the wing halves and joining them to the fuselage. Still despite all the complications (including a fair few mishaps caused by myself) I'm quite pleased with the way it turned out. The model was airbrushed with Tamiya acrylics and Vallejo Metal colour acrylics. I used a set of Eduard PE generic RAF early harnesses as the only aftermarket bits. A fair amount of scratch built detail was added to the cockpit including a new instrument panel and gunsight, unfortunately I can't really photograph this unless I invest in an endoscopic camera Link to the WIP thread here: http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234999978-172-airfix-hurricane-mk1-bof-markings/ Thanks for viewing Edited May 1, 2016 by Squibby
WildeSau75
Very nice build - like it a lot. Subtle weathering and the nav lights are great. Cheers, Michael

Tomoshenko
Superb build and nicely photographed. All the extra scratch and bits and bobs have done it a great service. One of the best 1/72 Hurricane's I've seen for a while. Enjoyable build thread with lots of techniques on display too.

TheBaron
Very nice Hurri indeed. Your idea of an endoscopic RFI thread might be just the kind of unorthodox thing somebody sets up on here one day and it becomes the latest craze in modelling I've already suggested to 'simmerit' that his Chinook has so much interior work it's the only way people will ever know what's in there. Nice one, Tony

al_the_drummer
That's an absolute beauty. I've just finished one (pics soon) which isn't a match for this, but it's lovely to see what can be done in more skilled hands. Single soft-box for the lighting on the shots? (I'd guess high and camera left...) They're very nice too... Edit - nope, two lights...one for the rim light, lower to the right...? Squibby
Thanks for all the nice comments, I appreciate it I'm glad you all like the photos, this was my first attempt at this model photography business and I was impressed myself at how they came out. That being said if you saw how mickey mouse the setup was you'd be dying of laughter I have a light coloured blind in my modelling room which gets hit with direct sunlight in the afternoon but diffuses it nicely. I placed an A4 sized dark grey colour card against the blinds as the backdrop and one on the desk to place the model on. There were no other lights. The model just got lit by the indirect diffuse light from the blinds with a bit of light spilling around the top and sides of the backdrop card. I took the photos using my Canon crop sensor DSLR with a ultra wide angle lens (16mm) on a tripod. I used an aperture of 14-22 to get as wide a DoF as possible (though the crispness suffered a bit). I manual focussed around the cockpit since the camera had aneurisms trying to autofocus at close range. Ran the shutter around 3-5 seconds to overexpose the shot (without clipping it anywhere important). The final image is a tight crop with the exposure pulled down and contrast adjusted a bit (also took the opportunity digitally remove a few bits of stray fluff ). I'll post up one of the un-developed images for a laugh when I get back home. Edited May 1, 2016 by Squibby
The Spadgent
Well didn't that turn out well. What a stunning Hurricane. The subtle weathering is something I'm going to adopt for my next build if you don't mind. Pulling this baby back from the brink was a joy to watch. You should be very happy with those results. Photos are great too. John.

Squibby
Cheers all for the comments! @Spadagent, maybe back from the brink would be pushing it I've seen far worse modelling adversities overcome by the talented members on here, and saying that would cheapen their efforts lol. Though at one point it almost took on a kamikaze mission into the nearest wall I'm glad I got over it and finished it. Also for wondering what the photo setup looked like... Prepare to be amazed (or blinded by the glare...) It's amazing what some raw file editing can do

Woodo79
Great rendering of a lovely little kit. Want to go back and do another as I too wasn't 100% happy with my first go at it.
cngaero
I had to do a double take on the thread title to confirm that this was a 1/72 model. Beautifully finished and photographed.
