1:48 AVRO BLUE STEEL MISSILE

FUTURE RELEASE

wp66b8055b_06.png

When it became known that we were developing

a 1:72 Mandator transport vehicle for an Avro Blue Steel Missile,

we were asked if we would also produce a 1:48 version.

When we said yes, it was obvious that a 1:48 missile would be necessary - hence this kit!

As the project progresses, we will post details here.

Would be nice alongside my Aeroclub 1/48th Vulcan... or the Sanger one.

I don't suppose that given they have decided to do the Mantador missile carrier and then the Blue Steel missile they could be persuaded to do a 1/48 Vulcan and go the whole hog?!! I guess not but there's an opening there!

AEC Mandator, Blue Steel missile and bomb trolley

With the completion of the North Star/Argonaut and Valiant B2 conversion kits, the next big project is to produce the Mandator, missile and trolley in 1:72 and 1:48. The Blue Steel missile will be first and will include a removable tail cone to show a Stentor rocket motor.

(...) Other news is that the Blue Steel missile is progressing well, The only part of the design still to be completed is the Stentor rocket motor. Luckily there is an example preserved at the Midlands Aircraft Museum at Bagington, near Coventry, and they are very helpful. We have decided to do a 1;72 Blue Steel as well because although there is a missile in the Airfix kits of both the Vulcan and Victor,
they do not include the Stentor motor. (...)

These screen shots from the CAD program show the complete model  and with the left side of the  tailcone removed to show the Stentor rocket motor.

Two ventral fins will be supplied; the first is folded sideways in the transport configuration (as shown above, right),while the second is vertical in the flight configuration.

The tailcone is intentionally removable to show the Stentor rocket motor.

News

Friday 12th May 2017

The 1:48 Avro Blue Steel missile will be available
from Hannants during the week ending 19th May 2017.

We are making some changes to the 1:72 version
as the flying surfaces are too fragile.

Wish this company would do some more detail aftermarket sets for the Aeroclub 1/48 Vulcan kit or the Sanger one.

Incidentally; is the Sanger 1/48 Vulcan kit finally out?

Cheers,

Thanks a lot @GTX

What would you say, worth it?

I am thinking of equipping or at least putting it aside my Islandic Art Vulcan.... that still is in the pile to be done soon ;)
