Dermo245
Hi everyone, Does anyone know how the wing panels on the Spitfire prototype K5054 were configured? I've seen some model builds where the panel lines are horizontal, from wing root towards the wingtip, in a kind of 'decking' manner. But then looking at the Alley Cat kit, they seem to be regular panel lines (i.e. without the 'decking') Any advice or references appreciated. Cheers, Dermot
andym
Depends on what time period you wish to depict it: http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234976488-alleycats-k5054-spitfire-prototype/ HTHAndy
Don McIntyre
I read in Shacklady's book, IIRC, that initially the panel lines were puttied over prior to painting to get as smooth a wing finish as possible.

MilneBay
I built the prototype a few years back using the 1/48 Airfix MkI as the starting point. I did it as it was on the first flight. I didn't use any aftermarket preferring as usual to do the work myself - sanding, filling and rescribing the wing to depict that horizontal "planking" was a finicky job. But the hardest part was actually getting the exhausts right - fiddly little things. Edited April 18, 2016 by MilneBay
