Ignacio Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 Hi fellow modellers, this is my last finished project. It´s the nice PBY-5A Catalina from Academy in 1/72. i added some extras like Eduard PE and Starfighter decals to depict the first allied airplane to land in Guadalcanal in 1942. Althought I don´t think it carried any bombs, I choose to use some on my model. Build is very straightforward. It was painted with Testors acrylics and oil washed. Smoke stains were made with pastel chalks. I hope you like it and every comment and critics are welcomed! Best regards from Uruguay! Ignacio 42

Alan Sannazzaro Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 That's a great looking Catalina, fantastic to see. The photi etch really adds to it. You beat me to posting. I've just finished an RNZAF one, and am building a diorama base for it at the moment- watch this space.
rob85 Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 Love the cat! I should have got the academy one and not the bloody airfix one, I thought it would be a good project.... Very very nice work Rob

Spitfire31 Posted April 13, 2016 Posted April 13, 2016 One of the best Catalinas I've seen in 1/72nd! That offset nose wheel does a lot for adding 'life' as well. Superb modelling. Kind regards, Joachim
Ignacio Posted April 13, 2016 Author Posted April 13, 2016 Thanks very much to all of you guys! I´m far to get he results that I want, but I try to learn everything from other modellers like you. What I see in this forum sometimes amazes me. Best regards. Ignacio
daneel Posted April 13, 2016 Posted April 13, 2016 beautiful catalina! great work! we need more catalinas
Mr Modeller Posted April 13, 2016 Posted April 13, 2016 I've always loved the shape of the Catalina with its' big high wing and those twin radials, it's just a cool looking plane and sounds so sweet when you hear a real one rumble past!! I fully intend to build one in the next year sometime, just wish Airfix would release one in a new tooling instead of keep dishing up their old donkey over and over again? A very nice build Ignacio - well done!! Kev 1
Reini78 Posted April 13, 2016 Posted April 13, 2016 that´s a sweet "little" Cat! greets to South America 1
Housesparrow Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 The turned front wheel is a very nice touch! 1
