Came for the FW, stayed for the banter. :)

Glad to see the 'special relationship' still thrives...

Cheers all for an enjoyable read on this Sunday morning,

Tony

The butcher bird is looking good, PC, even in an aesthetic sense (that will go once the landing gear goes on, I suppose).

I concur with the parenting advice - the only people that disapprove of other children's normal behaviour are those that have never had one.

That's very impressive freehand work PC, your airbrushing has undergone a sea-change recently, is this entirely due to using a thinner mix?

I think that in large part is it -- when I freehand like this, however, I use a different airbrush (I have four[!!!]]), my SOTAR 20/20 instead of my doughty Badger 175. (My other brushes are a rebadged Badger 200 sold by Alclad, which I use for those paints and primer, and one of those cheapo Master airbrushes that I use almost never because the action feels weird to me.) The SOTAR is crazy fancy, and has a nominal retail price of $400 (or about £1600 and four pelts after Brexit), but is perpetually sold on Amazon for less, much less, about $90. Despite this, it's actually a pretty good airbrush, if of limited utility for most normal stuff.

Also, confidentially, I think Luftwaffe stuff is pretty easy to paint compared to RAF or USAAF aircraft.

As for the vomit maybe it was just his way of appreciating meeting the son of an astronaut.... Like showing off??

Jay seemed impressed, but he's a little like a plus-sized Tommy Chong. I can only imagine how his father felt about that in the 1970s.

I expect Winnie enjoyed the outing*, despite his digestive issues...

This is one of the 'baptisms of fire' all parents have to go through (being the parents in a restaurant with the child that everyone else is tutting at) so well done - it will get better as your parental thick skin develops over time :)

Oh, the other day we went out for burritos -- America's curry -- and through a causal chain that remains unclear, Winston managed to eat some of Mrs P's burrito suizo, giving him the strength of ten men -- not ten babies, ten men. The sight of his guacamole-smeared face as he surged up and over the table towards the burrito will haunt my dreams.

Yes, I find the older Winston gets, the less I really know about proper childcare. I just hope I can preserve his sweet nature as he grows older.

😂, he sounds far to much like my lad, watch how he grows! Some how my boy has the same muscle mass and definition as dwayne 'the Rock' Johnson, I am sure he can deck me.... He will also 'minesweep' but not for others alcoholic beverages but for food, at the last kids party he and a mate stole a bowl of Doritos and hid under a table smashing them into their faces.... I'm only jealous I suppose

I learned new slang today! "Minesweep" isn't in common usage here.

I just got back from an eight mile run -- I am badly out of shape, but I did it, I am alive, I am here, I am going to just have a lie down for a bit.

Enjoy a well earned lie down my friend!

Minesweeping is finding others left over or unattended alcoholic beverages at a party or night out.... to be a cheap git really..... not a practice I partake in, obviously

Minesweeping was a regular but dangerous affair (not unlike the real thing) in the NAAFI at RAF Halton. I was too squeamish to try it more than once (finding a cigarette butt, or would that be the Mine, in the bottom of the glass was enough for me) but some other hardy souls (i.e. the Rugby playing crowd) couldn't resist?

PC, why the 8 mile run, had your car broken down in a bad neighbourhood or what?

Duncan B (who couldn't run to the car!)

This is all fascinating. We do something vaguely similar in this house, but it's glasses of water, and neither of us apparently like to share so at any moment, about six or seven glasses are in play for a household of two adults.

As regards the running, I used to be pretty good (five years ago, I finished a 5k sixth in my age group with an average time of 6:22 per mile -- okay, not that great, but it sounds like the time of another person entirely these days), and now I'm just pretty fat, and I'm trying to get back into it. Mrs. P was very supportive and took Winston off on a trip to Target -- visits to Target by mothers inevitably cost $100 and this was no different, but it was a small price to pay for a pleasant run outdoors.

I just erased every damned thing I wrote by clicking on the wrong part of the tab.

In any event, long story short, I ran four miles in 30 minutes -- four 7:30 miles -- without pause or rest today, straight through. It's been a very long time since I could do that. Be ye changed or be ye undone.

Me, fat and old:

20160426_230533_zpslbb9cjoz.jpg

I also did a little more work -- cleaned up the camo, and screwed up a weathering attempt with X-19 Smoke.

This side went well:

This one didn't:

Never airbrush absent-mindedly.

Here's the underside, for good measure:

This shows the different colours of the exhaust well. May not be very accurate for a 190, though.

Ah PC, wait until you really are fat and old, you will look at that picture and say: "What was I concerned about then? I had it going on, dammit, and all I could think was that I was fat and old! Grr, younger me was an idiot!"

That's what I did anyway, and continue to do to this day.

I'd just like to point out that I bought the Royal Class set yesterday and it would not have happened had I not seen this thread. I'm not blaming you - yet. That comes later.

Yours is looking very nice, given the normal obvious limitations of the 190 lookswise :D

Cheers,

Stew

Fat and old? That's not fat and old, this is fat and old... I was going to include a 'selfie' but no, I won't scare you this early in the morning... us Game of Thrones fans have had enough of that for a long time, thank you very much! If you don't know what I'm talking about you're lucky and I won't expose you to the horror - just take it from me, that's NOT a picture of an old person, oh no, not by a long way...

I second what Stew said (of course) - you have to 'age gracefully' Egbert... "four 7:30 miles" = "old and fat"... I don't think so!

Anyway, nice work on the ugly bird. If you're not happy with it just a ) try again or b ) throw it on the shelf of doom.

Considering the progress you've made so far I think option 'a' is the one to go for. Go over it with something and it'll be fine.

Being truly fat and old I concur with my esteemed brethren above, that statement and the sub 15 minute/mile stats do not go with the photo.

However back to the lovely 190, I'd say you've just about got it beaten now so I expect we'll be seeing the decals on shortly.

I have bought a few (read: "more than a few") including the Royal Edition so should really be making a start to one of them before 3d printing takes over our hobby.

Probably being older & fatter than all three of the above respondents, your statement that you are 'fat & old' is either a failed attempt at irony - or a load of old bo11ocks. I tend toward the latter....!!

I am though pleased with myself that your sbversive attempts building such a nice little model haven't led me to the darkside, & I haven't bought any little Focke's. Just an Eduard 1/48th dual combo of Spitfire XVI's to shoot down some more of them!

Nice work again - both on the FW & that running nonsense!

I'm so, so sorry Stew. You should probably buy some Spitfire IXs, too.

Fortunately for me, my redhead is rarely witchy and still looking pretty youthful.

Winston's cute too, I guess.

A very proper response!

I wonder about that...I suppose it will happen eventually, and cause a contraction in the kitmaking world, but I hope a few persist. I like buying boxes and stacking them -- apparently more than building models, even.

(Check for necklace...) Yes! Mrs P is looking very youthful and yes, Winnie is cute! :)

What do you mean, exactly, by "rarely witchy"??

PC, your airbrush skills are now up there with the best of 'em, perhaps I can get a lesson or two come September.

Like Keith, I'm glad to have weathered the temptation of this thread with only an unrelenting desire for a Royal Class Spitfire boxing.

Hi Mrs. P and Winston!

Not quite, but I can show you how to take bad photos to hide sins!

Of course, now that I've posted that, I just painted the spinner, so perhaps there'll be some forward motion.

Winston looks very well indeed. Great stuff.

He is crawling and burbling now. The other day, I was crawling with him (so he felt like we had shared struggles), when Mrs. P emerged from the kitchen, a vision of fresh-faced, clean-limbed loveliness. We both started crawling towards her, and as I seemed to be pulling ahead, the little tyke made a fierce and determined expression at me, put on a burst of speed, and cut me off! Oedipal!

Oof, almost a month of inactivity, and more to come. Sorry chaps. I've been pretty busy with Winston of late:

Excellent :D.

BTW, fat?!?! Good God, man - you know nothing of fat. You lot are the perfect nuclear family.

The model's coming on well, too...
